AIDS

Why is there no relationship between abortion numbers and AIDS cases? Every abortion means unsafe sex has taken place but the numbers of heterosexual women with AIDS is infinitesimal in comparison with AIDS cases in gay men.

They can’t be relational because abortions only apply to half the population where AIDS can apply to the whole population. Also because unsafe sex isn’t the only way to contract aids, where unsafe (you should really say unprotected) sex is the only way to get pregnant.

What??? That’s like asking the relationship between ketchup and pickels. Not much except sometimes they’re both used on hamburgers

Actually, “unsafe” sex is not the only way to get pregnant. Women have actually conceived while on the Pill.

And not “every abortion” is a result of “unsafe” sex. Some are actually planned pregnancies that must be terminated.

A Jesusfied sig: Next time I covet thine opinion, I’ll ask for it!

My logic isn’t that far off. I could say abortions cure AIDS and you could call me hypothetically evil or something but not completely illogical.

In New Zealand (where I live) there are on average 10,000 - 15,000 abortions a year but only 20 -40 women have AIDS. That’s what I don’t understand. It’s probably the same in other places relatively speaking. Unprotected is correct, thank you.

As folks have already pointed out, there are way too many variables.

Some other examples: What about couples who are monogamous but accidentally conceive? She has an abortion but that has nothing whatsoever to do with a risk factor for AIDS.

Also, just as not every instance of male/female sex will result in a baby, the same is true of HIV transmission. The risk factors, you might say, are different (for example, a woman is much more likely to get HIV from her infected partner if they have anal sex – but she’s rather unlikely to get pregnant that way).

I understand G Nome’s general point, especially with the stats quoted, if they are accurate. It must be understood that we are speaking in a very general sense, i.e. ‘most abortions come from unplanned pregnancies and most unplanned pregnancies come from unprotected sex’. Do most transmissions of AIDS (or HIV +) come from unprotected sex? I guess that question is the one that should be answered.

Abortion does NOT mean unsafe sex took place.
