What is the most likely issue causing this problem with my air conditioner? The thermostat shows the correct temperature, the intake is working properly (i can feel the vacuum created by the intake), the air filters are freshly changed (as of 3 days ago), but it blows warm air instead of cool.
This is a home air conditioner mounted on the roof, about 10 years old, not an evaporative cooler.
I called a technician to come look at it tomorrow. The diagnostic is 100 bucks, which will be waived if I have the tech fix the problem. What are some common issues that could be causing this problem, and how much should I expect those issues could cost to fix?
I had the same problem where I’m renting. The freon needed a recharge. Price varies by how much freon you need, and by region. My LL paid $200 in a Chicago suburb.
Cap bad on compressor motor.
Cap bad on condencer fan.
Compressor motor bad
Condencer fan bad.

Fuse blown on control board.
Bad control board.
Bad stat.
Problem with control wirring.
These are some of the thing that could cause the problem. With out looking at the unit and doing some testing there is no way any one can guess. As to the cost I would guess somewhere between $100 and $2000 or more.
I’ll take a wild guess that your AC unit is just generally malfunctioning. Not in any specific way, but you know, just not working. Not only that, but it’s probably out of code or otherwise illegal in your state (you don’t list your state on the Dope? Well, it’s illegal in ANY state) and it’ll be about 10 grand to get a new one. Check or Card?
