Trump flew to Turkey on the VC-25B (Qatari1). While he was there, it was announced that he would fly home on a VC-25A (what we normally think of as AF1) for security reasons. He got on that plane, snuck off, and went to a C-32A (converted 757). Then all THREE planes flew to England where Trump snuck back onto the VC-25A, exited it, and switched to the VC-25B for the flight home.

The fact that a plane flew using the callsign “Air Force One” without the President aboard, and that a different plane flew without that callsign with the President, is relevant to this thread. Most of the other discussion of the recent incident is not. There are plenty of other threads on the subject; take all of the incidental chatter to one of those.
