Airline bumps the wrong passenger. Oops!

Judge awards damages to an aviation lawyer who was involuntarily bumped from a flight last year.

Modest compensatory damages and not very much in punitive damages, to be sure, but still - who else would know all the ins and outs of the system and be able to cite how on average, 900,000 passengers are bumped each year in the US? Not just someone who works for an airline. Not just a lawyer. An aviation lawyer! Ooops!

What really amazes me is how the airline refused to retrieve his bags from the airplane - I thought Homeland Security required a bag’s owner to be seated on the flight, otherwise the bag is required to be removed from the aircraft.
