AIS radio ads

Every so often, I hear these FM radio commercials by an auto insurance company called “AIS” (Auto Insurance Specialists?). They all feature someone who claims to be a DJ of the station the ad is playing on. The DJ answers a call from a caller who proceeds to talk about how the ad is real and how much money AIS is saving them.

What’s the deal with these? If they’re real, why would anyone call a radio station to talk about their auto insurance in the first place and what kinda show would have time for that? Why do the DJs cooperate and why would they play back the same recorded calls over and over instead of broadcasting new ones live?

And if they’re fake, why is AIS allowed to get away with it? Are they a reputable insurance company at all?

I think if you listen closely, the DJ is calling the AIS customer.
AIS does a lot of advertising on KROQ here in LA. One of the morning show producers (Lighting) does the ads and does the calling.
Where do they get the names of who to call? Probably from AIS. AIS agent finds out that they saved their new customer $X. In conversation, they find out that their new customer listens to KROQ, or they ask how they came to AIS. IF the answer is KROQ and lots of money was saved, you are on the way.
In any event I am sure that the taped “call” is all set up ahead of time, before the tape starts rolling.
