Akon dry humpin' a 14 year old girl during a concert- thoughts?

The background: Back in April, RnB singer Akon performed a concert in Trindad at a night club. Part of his act is bringing a girl (or three) on stage and simulating sex with her/them. In fact, here’s a video of him doing something similar with Tara Reid (queen of class). Video leaked of this particular performance and within no time people were shouting from the roof tops that the girl in question was really only 14 years old- a fact that was later confirmed by her father. . .a preacher. People all over are labeling what happened “rape” all over the media. There have been reports that the father is attempting to press charges.

Newer Facts: Apparently, the girl is fourteen, but the club was only supposed to allow 18+ in. Akon operated under the assumption that the club had enacted their own policy and everyone involved was of legal age.

Here’s a link to the video of him, er, “dancing” with her. (I’d suggest turning your sound down for the shrieks of young women in the background are horrible) (Potentially NSFW, I’d imagine, though they are showing these clips on the news).

Personally? I think the girl (and, being a minor, her parents) were completely in the wrong here. I can’t say I would ever dance like that myself, but apparently that type of dancing is very popular on the Caribbean club scene. Akon was working under the assumption that this was an adult show and honestly, she didn’t seem to be disliking what was going on.

Further, her pastor father has come out condemning Akon (article here ). According to dad, his daughter was taken advantage of and even brought his church into it:

My reply to that? Then why was your 14 year old daughter at that concert? Better yet, why was your 14 year old daughter wearing a shirt that would cause many strippers to blush? Even better yet, why does your 14 year old daughter already have a tramp stamp? I don’t want to come across like I’m blaming the kid entirely here, but I just fail to see how the responsibility was entirely on the performer. I mean, for goodness’ sake- I’d never look at that kid and think she was 14, ESPECIALLY in an 18+ club.

Here are a few more pictures of that poor, taken advantage of child: definitely raping her, she’s clearly terrified , poor dear .

I should also note that another gossip blog dug up the link to her MySpace, which was private but had a display picture of her wet, in a towel, standing in a bathroom mirror. The page also said she was 19 years old, if I remember correctly.

Even everyone’s favorite Bill O’Reilly had to discuss “Acorn”. You see that here.

So that’s my opinion, Billy Boy’s opinion, and Ann Coulter Jr’s opinion- what’s yours?

While I am certain that Akon will undoubtedly get into a lot of trouble, I don’t think most of it is warranted. Obviously, though, I feel that this will be the minority opinion. I agree with you that she was clearly participating voluntarily, and that Akon could have reasonably assumed that she was a young-looking 19-year-old. I know twenty-plus women who are constantly judged as being early high-schoolers. Thus, if the bar did indeed have a 19+ policy, I could see him assuming she was simply such a female.

I find Akon’s music to be utterly tasteless and without worth, as well as his “dance” there, but I agree with your assessment of the situation. She seemed to be a willing participant, did not look obviously 14 and he operated under the (reasonable) assumption that a club would attempt to police its own rules. If for no other reason than this, Akon’s reputation and ability to sell CDs rides on skirting that fine line in legality without obviously crossing it.

I’m sure that all the people mentioned (outside of yourself), are rather stupid. Coming down to choose a side isn’t even worth it.

These people, and people all over the world, should be reminded that “spin ≠ fact”.

Simulated sex? Looks like a dance to me. Sort of a weird spidery mating dance, but a dance.

Yeah, the girl looks pretty young in those shots. Akon should have been more careful. Then again, I bet he wants the publicity.

And the preacher’s clearly got trouble in his own house.

Anyway, I just wanted to say: Strippers don’t blush. And in the tropics, at a club, I’m not convinced that shirt would make very many people blush.

It’s a simple matter of the preacher father being too much of a spineless douchebag to accept any of the blame for his daughter’s behavior and the way she acts at only 14.

He doesn’t want to be seen as the horrible failure of a parent he is, so he has to pass the blame onto an entertainer. It’s really no surprise, this kind of shit is happening all the time these days.

I agree with the prevailing opinion. He had every reason to believe that she was an adult.

Nice work if you can get it. :dubious:
I think the OP pretty well covered it.

Akron was doing what he does. That 14 year old girl was doing what she does. The father is to blame here. What was she doing unsupervised in an environment like that?

I have to disagree there… He had her spread-legged on the ground, lay on top of her, and was moving his ass up and down to simulate thrusting. Looked like simulated sex to me.

That said, does she have breast implants? Those looked like some pretty big boobies for a 14 year old. I don’t think he is in the wrong here. I think she looked of-age, he could reasonably expect her to be of-age, and she certainly seemed to be going along with it without complaint. Hell I was at a bar once and my boyfriend paid for me to get a “body shot” which involved being put on the bar on my back with the (kilt-clad, very attractive) bartender getting on top of me and behaving in a pretty similarly lewd manner (I did NOT complain, I was having fun!) and then pouring a shot on my stomach and licking it off. Then pouring a shot of something in my mouth. shrug these are the kinds of activities that adults participate in willingly all the time–that Akon should be expected to realize that the people at the show were not exactly that (adults, having a good time) is not realistic.

OpalCat- those are probably real. I had a nice set of Cs when I was 14 and, being 14, those bastards defied gravity not unlike the ones on the “rape victim”.

Of course, men have also assumed I was 25 since I was 14, so maybe that is another point in Akon’s defense. :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe I’m just projecting then. I had As until I got pregnant in my 20s.

Trash will be trash. I don’t think Akon’s to blame. She certainly doesn’t look a demure little eighth grader to me.

He’s in the news again. This time, someone threw something at him. A bouncer brought the kid (?) onstage, and then Akon picked him up and threw him down off the stage. He could have killed the person.

Were we watching the same video? And were those photos of her ‘compliance’ taken before or after the security guard whisked her away?

Apparently, the girls/women who took part in the dancing were under the impression that they were competing for a trip to Africa. This was bogus. Though the crowd determined that the teenage girl won, Akon declared himself the winner. Class. Act.

In this case or any case, does dancing with a man, even suggestively and while wearing a low-cut top, mean a girl or woman wants him to splay her out and dry hump her halfway across the floor? If so, I may have really dodged a bullet as a teen. Does the man’s behaviour automatically become acceptable if the less-than-willing woman is 24 rather than 14?

Motherhood affected your grades, did it?
