Ever since the Ferguson incident, I’ve been watching more and more of this network. I’ve gained a lot of respect for them. They have a PBS type of feel to their coverage. I don’t like the fact that they’re a government-owned entity (Qatar government) but I wanted to see what anyone else thought of them?
I would very much like to watch Al Jazeera America just to get a different perspective on the news. Unfortunately, my cable company doesn’t carry it.
Weak pit.
There was a thread a month ago:
Is Al Jazeera the Fox News of the Middle East or is it a reputable source of news and information?
Moved to… Cafe Society? Sure, why not.
nm … Miller fixed my problem.
I thought they were a clandestine CIA operation? Reporting the news allows CIA operatives cover and access to Islamist jihadist strongholds? Was I Ms Informed?
What?
Completely true. And Obama’s been putting socialism in our drinking water!
He said…(cups hands around mouth)

Is Ms. Informed related to Ms. Independent?
In answer to the OP I know a fair number of journalists who made the jump to go work for them and have raved about the idea that they are working for a ‘journalism first’ operation, working the way we all wish a news operation would work (and reminding many of the ‘good old days’).
That said I think they have almost as many employees as they have nightly viewers, and under any reasonable circumstance one would expect their owners to cut back or fold up shop by now. However the owners are not normal, they are Qatari royals who feel they have a sense of duty to inform the world. Their non-American channels do quite well, and are viewed as actually pretty unbiased journalists.
All kidding aside they are really worth giving a chance.
They have a special on Ferguson tonight at 6 Central, I’ve got the DVR set to record it.
They do have a website.
I didn’t even know there was such a thing until the local paper had a story on AJA. I’m getting to hate all of the other cable news channels. AJA is mostly straight news and not 24 hours of the ONE story of the day. I see two or three familiar faces from other news shows and CNBC. I’m doubtful they’ll last though. They’ve cut way back on staff and the story I read mentioned they had 17,000 viewers for a particular time slot (don’t remember which but it wasn’t four a.m.) At noon EST they show a prerecorded program – I guess it’s their lunch break and they don’t have enough staff to keep it live during lunch. It’ll be too bad if it doesn’t survive.
Their online news is pretty much the only one I trust.
