Alabama Christians with a persecution complex

Direct link to FoxNews video page of the PUT IT BACK! guy.,

That video is disturbing. In a funny way.

That guy was reeaaaallllyyy mad. I kept expecting him to say “Put the motherfucker back! Put the goddamn thing back!”

Well I’m very glad to see the whole thing, actually. The guy trying to calm him down – obviously on “his side” – immediately said things like “in a prayerful way” and “they can’t put their hands on God” in response to the poor guy’s ravings. This appeared to be a lone lunatic – excuse me, emotionally aroused person. But alone.

That. Was. Beautiful. :stuck_out_tongue:

In addition to what Biggirl said, I expected him to haul off and hit the guy in the wife-beaterish shirt. I know that if I was that angry, I sure wouldn’t want someone else putting his hand on my shoulder to calm me down.

They couldn’t put their hands on their god, true (as the big old football player-looking guy said in the video), but for some reason they enjoyed putting their hands on the yelling guy…

I was watching that clip, and I couldn’t help but think, “You know, one of these days, that guy’s going to show up in the news again, and the story’s going to involve Kool-Aid.”

That’s exactly how I feel about school prayer. I mean, c’mon, he’s GOD. You think he’s not going to be able to come there if he really wanted to? D’uh. It’s like, “Medammit! Stupid government can’t let Me in the schools!”

I don’t think so.

They can’t put their hands on our God. Sounds like an idolator to me. Their God seems strangely tangible. I wonder if the monument has cured anyone of blindness or something. Also, he seems to have a lot of anger for someone who allegedly worships a God of love. What a Bozo.

Is it just me or does anybody else think this guy is a troll? I mean I picture him with a tube of KY and a copy of “How to Really, Really, Really, Piss off Left Wingers and Secularists”. I mean who the fuck uses the term “War of Northern Agression” anymore outside of bad satires of southern culture. And calling Cali the “land of fruits and nuts” - I remember hearing that shit 20 years ago. It wasn’t funny then either.

As to the monument flap - my feeling is that this may possibly be the most despicable political stunt in American history. The Christian right is so strong in Alabama though that Moore may just be able to ride this to governer’s mansion. I hope I’m wrong.

Just a friendly reminder…

It’s pretty frowned upon around here to accuse someone of trolling.

Otherwise, good post!

What drives me nuts are the people who are screaming about how we can’t take their Bible away from them, can’t take the Lord out of their hearts.

I guess that’s the Christian version of “Do you think you’ll ever get away with beating your wife?!”

That’s exactly what the plaintiffs were doing! They were angry that those christians had the Lord in the hearts, and sued to have the Lord and their Bible taken away from them!

Replace “Kool-Aid” with “automatic weapon” and I’ll agree.

Good Morning,

First let me tell you that I desperately tried to post the info I had yesterday, and after I cut it down to almost nothing, it still said my post was too long, although I have seen posts that are at least double what I was trying to post.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say that I am very surprised at all of the anti-Christian sentiment here. And trust me, I am no Jesus freak. There also seems to be a certain amount of hatred here, as well. And, oh, about the people who think Alabamians are ignorant, have sex with their sisters, etc… I will just say that I have a master’s degree, my husband is an attorney, and Alabama boasts of one of the best hospitals in the country, UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. And yes, I do have indoor plumbing, as almost everyone who lives here does. I could go on, but why bother, here.

The Hustler magazine reference I wil just let that ridiculous comparision speak for itself. People being bussed in? Remember, I live in Montgmery, and yes, some people voluntarily came in on a couple of buses from a couple of different churches in out-lying counties and from out of state. This was their decision to make, and I see where this is no different than all the locals who are there as well. Also, the crowd is not 150 people. Through the past week, there have been crowds in excess of 400 people, the majority of them being locals. This is not my count, but what has been reported on the national news.

Also, I belong to a Christian church with 2000 members, and all but 7 believe the monument should stay.

Please, get your facts straight before posting them.

Probably shouldn’t come to this forum anymore to post, maybe just read around a little. I did love the Wal-Mart post. Most of what I see here is nothing but pure ignorance. Close-minded people who just want to bitch and put-down others.

I will end by saying that God is the under-lying foundation of everything that goes on in the world, and I don’t think he can be seperated from anything.

Of course, this is just my humble opinion.

Best wishes to all,
Peace Lady

You personally have spoken to 2000 members in your church and all but 7 told you personally that they wanted the monument to stay? I find this very hard to believe.

Okay…let me try to address some of your points.

  1. There truly is not a lot of anti-Christian sentiment around here. There are a great number of Christians on this board who are loving, spiritual people who truly care about the well-being of their fellow man.

  2. Where did anyone say that people in Alabama sleep with their sisters and don’t have indoor plumbing? Unless I missed it those stereotypes have only been thrown out by you. There are a handful of posters here from AL and we all are highly educated and thoughtful people.

  3. The Hustler magazine reference was a great one. You, along with myself I imagine would be horribly offended to see such a sight in a public building where we had to pass every day. That is how the 10C monument makes those who are non-Christian feel. It offends them because they do not believe in it. Whether you or I think that is a correct belief to have, they are entitled to it. Judge Moore placing it there with disregard to everyone’s opinions and feelings is a slap in the face to those who do not believe and rightly so. He swore an oath to uphold the interests of ALL Alabamians not just those who profess Christ. He can believe whatever he wants to personally but he is misusing his position of power for his own personal gain.

  4. I completely agree with you that God cannot be separated from my life and my beliefs but I don’t need a statue or monument to have God in my life.

It’s THE MAN trying to keep you down.

A few points:
[ul]
[li]There is no anti-Christian sentiment. There’s anti-idiot sentiment. The two are dissimilar, but unfortunately, in this instance some Christians are wearing both labels.[/li][li]This is the Pit. People come here to vent and be angry. [/li][li]Show me a cite from this thread wherein a poster said all Alabamians are ignorant or have sex with their sisters, and I will personally flame that poster from here to Wetumpka and back.[/li][li]I am pleased that your life seems to be going so well. What exactly that has to do with this thread beats me, though.[/ul][/li]

Translation: “I can’t refute that, so I’ll ignore it in the hopes that it’ll go away.”

Again, my points regarding the size of the crowds were: 1) The folks surrounding the Alabama Judicial Building are not all Alabamians; 2) It’s ridiculous to assume that 400 people represent the will and desire of millions of Alabamians.

I’ve seen 400 people at a fantasy/sci-fi convention in Birmingham. Based on this gathering, would you suggest that all of Alabama’s residents be forced to wear chainmail and Spock ears?

Exactly what facts are you disputing?

Lord have mercy, will you just look at the irony laying all around here! And I just cleaned! Kids, get in here and pick up your irony! You know the rules!

I believe the same thing. So why is it necessary to put up a monument to him in the AJB? He’s already there.

Perhaps you should reevaluate who is being close minded here.

You should have ended by saying that it is your belief that God etc. You seem to have trouble understanding that that is not fact, but an article of your personal belief system, and that others do not share that belief. And yet you would have your belief stated – engraved in stone – and displayed in such a manner as to make it appear as secular law.

Quick question for you – do atheists deserve fair and impartial trials?

But it is arbitrary because people decide differently which make sense and which don’t. One of my co-workers attends a Seventh Day Baptist church because they think “the Sabbath” means Saturday, not Sunday and that rule is still logical and meant to be followed. Some people think the rules concerning “laying with a man” make moral and logical sense, while other dispute those. Those you consider “moral and logical” just so happen to align with your personal morality.

No. I’m not following any rules. I do what I believe is right not because of some rule written in a book. I don’t lie to people because I don’t like them to lie to me. I don’t steal for the same reason. Just because my personal morality happens to coincide with some of the rules in the book doesn’t mean I’m “following the rules”.

I believe you, and other moral, ethical people of any religion, would be moral and ethical regardless of your religion. I don’t believe you would revert to plundering just because you lost your faith in God - despite you being a lawyer and all ;).

It’s truly magical thinking. I am reminded of wingnuts that believe that the words in the Bible have some mystical and magical properties, and by merely reciting them, they can cause rabbits to jump out of top hats or saw a lady in half.

As to your comment on having so little faith – it does seem awfully fragile, doesn’t it? They are so afraid that someone will come along and break their god, one has to wonder why they chose a god so breakable.
