Happy Dance! Moron ALA chief justice suspended from office!

I can only hope it becomes permanent.

The “Court of the Judiciary”, presumably an Alabama state institution, has suspended him for 30 days, while they consider a complaint against him.

Moore, it strikes me, is no rocket scientist. I wonder if he was even aware this could be done to him.

I read somewhere that this might all be part of his plan to run for governor.

Thank the Pink Unicorn I live way far away from Alabama.

From the above cite…
Roy Moore was automatically suspended with pay when
Wow, a 30 day paid vacation, that’ll teach him.

Better that than have him actually making judicial decisions for the next 30 days.

I think he should have been thrown in jail for willfully disregarding a superior court’s order. But I’m glad he’s removed at the least.

People like this make me cringe about being from the South. Couldn’t they love Jaysus in their own quiet way and honor God on their own and shut the hell up?

Moore is a West Point graduate, so as much as I want to believe he’s a moron, he’s not dumb. Obstinate, pig-headed, obnoxious, selective in his belief of the rule of law, an egotistical spotlight chaser, etc. but not dumb.

I fall into the camp that thinks this is part of a plan of his to make himself a “political martyr” for a later run or governor or senator. There are lots of fundamentalists in this state who will vote for him for anything because of his stance. I can see the campaign ads now:

“I stood up to the federal government when they wanted me to deny the God who gave us this great nation and the laws we govern it with. As your governor I’ll fight to put God back in every classroom, courthouse, and town square where He belongs to guide us as together we make a better Alabama.”

Can anybody recommend a state worth moving to so I can escape this shit?

I like Minnesconsin due to its healthy environment. You never see anything negative about living there in the paper, or on TV.
 Other than that, they all have one problem or another.

NO! NO! Its too cold. Much too cold. Stay away, you’d hate it here. Water freezes and falls from the sky in chunks, then you have to go out and shovel the water off your car! And blondes, way too many blondes with repulsively long legs, full bosoms and Scandanavian attitudes about sex! A guy can hardly walk down the street without stepping on his tongue.

Plus, it’s cold. Stay away! Oregon. Oregon is nice. Move to Oregon.

Wissota is better. Ohiowa is nice too.

How do most Alabamans feel about it?

I think it’s funny Moore keeps saying that the Alabama state constitution acknowledges God, so he must do so according to the law.

Just because it’s in the state constitution doesn’t make it right. Move the damn monument to private property and end it.

This is a PERFECT springboard into conservative Republican politics. This is why I consider myself a disaffected independent. This is another example of partisan pandering at its worst.

"OK, wonderful!, how about our monument to Vishnu, Judge Moore? Free of charge, we put it right there by the public library!

What? Remove it?"

Too many arms! Idol hands are the Devil’s workshop!

It’s a politically brilliant move, if you ask me. He’ll be governor come next election.

Giving the people what they want and all…

Georgia’s not as stupid. Well, the Atlanta area is not as bad as most of Alabama. I don’t know about South Georgia.

Seriously, Alabamans love them some Jaysus. There are about 8 All Jesus All The Time radio stations.

I know that for many of us the ‘with pay’ vs ‘without pay’ is a key factor. But, FME, those who work to get into the judiciary are a proud lot, and public censure from within is considered to be a very serious thing.

OTOH, his stance is a good one to use to vault to other elected office

(though - judges don’t often IME, leave judicial placements to go on to other less secure venues)

Public censure; public martyrdom in the eyes of his future gubernatorial constituency is another.

Definitely sounds like either a political ploy or the early onset of dementia to me…

Not Oregon!

Wyoming. Nobody lives there. That would be a good state for him.

I’m sure suspension from office and public censure are serious things for judges, though I suspect Moore will use them for political gain.

I do wonder though why contempt of court penalities were not imposed. If anything, his degree of responsibility regarding upholding the law would be greater than an average citizen’s.

IIRC, offending lawyers can be fined or even jailed for contempt of court. I dunno, though, maybe in only applies to actions during a trial.

In any case it seems like Moore has gotten off very lightly indeed.
Nauseating.

Certifying once and for all that Alabama is the home of clueless morons – just in time to take the heat away from California’s recall.
