People like this make me cringe about being from the South. Couldn’t they love Jaysus in their own quiet way and honor God on their own and shut the hell up?
Moore is a West Point graduate, so as much as I want to believe he’s a moron, he’s not dumb. Obstinate, pig-headed, obnoxious, selective in his belief of the rule of law, an egotistical spotlight chaser, etc. but not dumb.
I fall into the camp that thinks this is part of a plan of his to make himself a “political martyr” for a later run or governor or senator. There are lots of fundamentalists in this state who will vote for him for anything because of his stance. I can see the campaign ads now:
“I stood up to the federal government when they wanted me to deny the God who gave us this great nation and the laws we govern it with. As your governor I’ll fight to put God back in every classroom, courthouse, and town square where He belongs to guide us as together we make a better Alabama.”
Can anybody recommend a state worth moving to so I can escape this shit?
I like Minnesconsin due to its healthy environment. You never see anything negative about living there in the paper, or on TV. Other than that, they all have one problem or another.
NO! NO! Its too cold. Much too cold. Stay away, you’d hate it here. Water freezes and falls from the sky in chunks, then you have to go out and shovel the water off your car! And blondes, way too many blondes with repulsively long legs, full bosoms and Scandanavian attitudes about sex! A guy can hardly walk down the street without stepping on his tongue.
Plus, it’s cold. Stay away! Oregon. Oregon is nice. Move to Oregon.
This is a PERFECT springboard into conservative Republican politics. This is why I consider myself a disaffected independent. This is another example of partisan pandering at its worst.
"OK, wonderful!, how about our monument to Vishnu, Judge Moore? Free of charge, we put it right there by the public library!
I know that for many of us the ‘with pay’ vs ‘without pay’ is a key factor. But, FME, those who work to get into the judiciary are a proud lot, and public censure from within is considered to be a very serious thing.
OTOH, his stance is a good one to use to vault to other elected office
(though - judges don’t often IME, leave judicial placements to go on to other less secure venues)
I’m sure suspension from office and public censure are serious things for judges, though I suspect Moore will use them for political gain.
I do wonder though why contempt of court penalities were not imposed. If anything, his degree of responsibility regarding upholding the law would be greater than an average citizen’s.
IIRC, offending lawyers can be fined or even jailed for contempt of court. I dunno, though, maybe in only applies to actions during a trial.
In any case it seems like Moore has gotten off very lightly indeed.
Nauseating.
