They had 17 YEARS to mull over a Galaxy Quest sequel. I know it was probably hard to get the old band back together, but 17 years? Ridiculous. (Same with Zoolander 2, Ben Stiller did not age well in all those many years.)
I’m OK with not having a sequel to Galaxy Quest. It was a nice, fun movie but the odds are that any sequel would suck. Plus it seems like almost every movie nowadays is a sequel, remake, comic book or novel adaption or the latest in a franchise. It’s a little refreshing to see a movie that’s none of these.
What a shame.
And that was the only reason I was even remotely considering getting Amazon’s video service (especially if they ever offered a monthly version.) Sure, the other stuff is nice (unlike CBS which has nothing to offer but the new Star Trek and thus won’t get my money), but it was Galaxy Quest that was making me consider otherwise.
I’m not one that tends to believe the old can be ruined by the new. Only if the old explicitly connected to the new does that work on me (like HIMYM, where all the old episodes were leading up to the finale. That did hamper my enjoyment. But Fuller House does not affect my enjoyment of Full House either way. Same with Star War.)
If you get a chance, check out the film “Eye In The Sky”. Not only is it a hell of a good thriller but it’s Alan’s last onscreen role and he’s (of course) very good in every scene.
I’s a very fitting final performance for Mr. Rickman.
My thoughts exactly.
I just saw Eye in the Sky and yes, he is excellent in every scene he is in. I was especially moved by his (almost) last line in the film:
Never tell a soldier that he does not know the cost of war.
We saw it a few weekends ago. One of the best movies I’ve seen in ages. Everyone was good in it. Alan Rickman was superb.
I read some reviews of eye in the sky before deciding to see it, and am stunned to discover he was never even nominated for an Academy award. That is just sooo wrong.
