Well, in case you never hear it from them, good for you for helping them out, joe.
(Wondering whether Joe would move to a suburb of Montreal)
It’s very neighbourly of you to do that, Joe. Some years ago, my first husband died on January 30th. One of my neighbours came early in the morning the next day and cleared my steps and pathway. It was the first kindness of many that came my way in the following days, from many people, and I’ll never forget it.
Thanks. I actually get a very nice card every year from the mom with the girls. its been 10 years now so the girls are growing up) The one last year very nearly brought a tear to my eye… The old gal that moved in scurry’s away when she sees me, I think I scare her.
Hope everyone’s doing okay! I’ve been watching all of the news about the weather across Canada, ashamed to be happy that we’ve only had one day with snow on the ground here in Toronto.
Keep warm!
I finally finished clearing our sidewalks - took me about an hour and a half. I went inside and saw that it was -26ºC! No wonder my cheeks got so chilly! (Yeah, both sets.) We’re doing fine in Calgary, it looks like - the mall was full when I went out for a little shopping.
There is some snow on the ground today, but given that it is -28 outside (-36 wind chill) and the fact that I shovelled most of the snow yesterday, I think I can avoid attending to the light dusting that has accumulated since then.
It’s a good day to sit by the fire watching NFL football. Now, if Denver could only get its game against the Colts together. Yes, Denver just scored a TD, but they’re still down by 14, and we’re just shy of the half.
Holy cow! Got the morning news on, and Edmonton was the second-coldest place in the world yesterday? At -46C, it was second only to Siberia, apparently.
And here we are with a piddling -30C right now with a high of -22C forecast for today. Edmontonians, keep warm!
Yep Going be a cold one. The girls next didnt plug their car in, it aint gunna start. Sigh! get out the jumper cables. Past -30 is cold but it doesnt last very long here (Calgary) thank the gods.
I guess some of the construction workers in Alberta will be having a day off.
Nope, no go. Cant boost and ether dont help. Its there until warmer weather.! Bloody girls, plugin for gawds sake.
I heard on the weather channel yesterday morning that Edmonton was THE coldest place on earth at one point last week. Yay us?
It’s warming up now, though - high of -10ºC forecast for tomorrow! WooHoo! And over zero by Wednesday! I think I’ll break out my bathing suit!
I’m still going to see if I can get a new car battery today–second time in a week I’ve had to call for a jump start. The car’s been plugged in, but I guess my old battery just isn’t holding enough of a charge in this cold.
Yup, that sounds likely. It’s an old battery’s usual way of letting you know it’s finished - trying to start your car on a bitterly cold morning to drive to work.
Hey spoons, if you’re going to buy a new battery, get yourself one with a somewhat higher cold cranking amps rating than the factory one. The bottom on the “well” will be deeper, so to speak, and is less likely to run dry.
Stay warm buddy.
Car’s in the shop now. The new battery will have plenty of cold cranking amps, or so I am assured by the shop technician. Actually, I shouldn’t be surprised at these events–the old battery is the car’s original equipment, and is nine years old, so it’s likely gone longer than I should reasonably expect; and under those circumstances, it doesn’t owe me a dime. Time for a new one anyway.
I just wish this was indicated during warmer weather. But I see we may get some mid-week. (Hooray!)
I used to use battery blankets all the time up north. They plug in like the block heater and keep your cranking power up. Its shocking to see just how quickly the batteries go done with lower temps. At -30 you only have 25% of what you started with so an older battery really struggles.
