Album titles you like

What? 60-some posts and nobody’s said:

Big Black’s “Songs About Fucking”?

What more do you want in a title?

Blood on the Tracks - Bob Dylan
Squeezing Out Sparks - Graham Parker
Talking with the Taxman About Poetry - Billy Bragg
Darkness on the Edge of Town - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash - The Replacements

Thank You For Funkin’ Up My Life - can’t recall artist.

Richard Thompson–Starring As Henry the Human Fly
Stereolab–Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night
Broadcast–The Noise Made By People
Miles Davis–Live/Evil
The Minutemen–Double Nickels on the Dime
Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band–Lick My Decals Off, Baby

As an aside, two great band names I heard recently–
Afghanistan Banana Stand
The Dancing French Liberals of 1848

Since someone already mentioned Joe Walsh’s great album names, I’m going to contribute one of my favorite names:

Todd Rundgren - The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect

“We’re Only in it for the Money” – Mothers of Invention
“Feed us a Fetus, America” – Dayglo Abortions
“Duck Stab” – The Residents
“The Communists are Coming to Kill Us!” – John Trubee

Trivia time: Who’s John Trubee? Very obscure. Bet I’m the only one who’s heard of him…

Blind Man’s Movie by comedian Murray Roman. The whole cover, front & back AND a flap that opened, IIRC inside and out, were solid black. Name was in white letters on the edge.

Hot Tuna debut self-titled album. Jorma & Co. wanted to call themselves “Hot Shit” but the label flat said no. This was their alternative

As usual, RealityChuck beat me to several Firesign Theater titles, but he didn’t get I think We’re All Bozos on This Bus

After Bathing at Baxter’s by Jefferson Airplane

and of course

**Sticky Fingers ** by the Stones, complete with working zipper and inflatable phallic balloon. Guys got it right away. Some girls of the era (honest!) had to have it explained to them. Talk about your concept album!

Sheesh! let’s try that again WITH preview

I forgot Did I Shave My Legs for This? by Deana Carter. I haven’t heard the album, since I’m not big on country music, but you have to admit it’s a fantastic title.

Fleetwood Mac - “Rumors”
Pink Floyd - “Dark Side of the Moon”
Jimmy Buffett - “Songs you know by Heart (greatest hits)”

Blood on the Tracks, by Bob Dylan. The title describes the content of the album perfectly - love that is lost, and lost in the most painful way. A pissed off Dylan can’t be beat. Give a listen to “Idiot Wind” and you’ll hear what I mean.

I thought I would have seen Ministry’s “The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste” by now, or did I just miss it?

The Mathematician’s Air Display by Pekka Pohjola. Great title, great artist’s name, good cover artwork, and a very listenable opus in parts.

Incidentally, if anyone knows how I can get hold of a copy, please let me know. It seems utterly unavailable, by any means, in any format. It’s about 20 years since I heard it, and I’d love to renew the acquaintance.

Oh wait, one more:

Emergency Third Rail Power Trip by Lawsuit, a now-defunct Bay Area band.

“A Nod Is As Good As A Wink…To A Blind Horse” Faces (Rod Stewart)

“Disraeli Gears” Cream

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back by Public Enemy

Mad About Mad About, best classical pieces and performances.

I think I like made up words best. How about ‘Screamadelica’, ‘Illmatic’ and ‘Bandwagonesque.’ Five bonus points if you can name the artists.

The third one was by Teenage Fanclub.

Good album titles:
XTC: Drums & Wires, Skylarking, Oranges & Lemons, Nonsuch
Springsteen: “Born in the USA”
Madder Rose: “Panic On”
There’s a glam-era compilation, “Wham Bam, Thank You Glam!”
Then there’s the Rhino “Nuggets” series.
The Clash: “Sandinista!”
The dB’s: “Repercussion,” “Like This,”.
Kate Bush: “There Goes Another Tenner”.
Talking Heads '77 [mocking the “Airport '77” flick?] & “Fear of Music”.
Frank Zappa: “Sheik Yerbouti”
“Never mind the bollocks here’s the Sex Pistols”
The Selecter: “Selected Selecter Selections”

Rub till it bleeds by P.J. Harvey

Rancid: …And Out Come the Wolves
Frank Zappa: Pretty much every album, but especially Jazz from Hell and Shut Up ‘n’ Play Yer Guitar (followed by several sequels, including Return of the Son of Shut Up ‘n’ Play Yer Guitar)

Oh, and:
