Sting’s Mercury Falling is the first line and last lines in the song “The Hoounds of Winter” and “Lithium Sunset”.
This is more in the vein of what Nonsuch was saying, but Tim Easton has an album called The Truth About Us. It’s very evocative of the album as a whole, because most of the songs seem to be about relationships. However, that exact phrase doesn’t appear in any of the songs on the album. Last year he released Break Your Mother’s Heart (which is a line in the first track, "Poor, Poor L.A.) that contained a song called “Hanging Tree” that has that line. In addition to containing a line that corresponded to the previous album, that song seemed like it would fit in well it. So this past fall, when we were at one of his shows, my boyfriend asked him if that song was intended to be on the previous album. Tim said that it was originally, but it was cut just prior to the album being released.

Ok, going for the obscure here…a little known band called Storyhill…album is Clearing taken from a line in the song Somewhere in between where they are between 'the clearing and the blurry."
I actually just remembered that, though now Storyhill, they were just “Chris and Johnny” for Clearing.
I have nothing to add at the moment, except to say “sweet candy coated jesus, another Shriekback fan!”
Counting Crows “August and Everything After” is from a song that was never released or played anywhere, so it doesn’t quite fit.
But Shawn Mullins “Soul’s Core” appears in the song “The Gulf of Mexico”
Ryan Adams “Gold” appears quite prominently in “Tina Toledo’s Streetwalking Blues” and in passing a few other tracks.
Evanescence “Fallen” appears in the song “Whisper”, but with one depressing word on a goth-rock album, I’m shocked it doesn’t appear in more tracks.
All I could find on my mp3 player that wasn’t already mentioned. Being bored at work is not so fun.
