There have been a few occasions when a banned person has apologized, repented, indicated profound intention to behave better in the future, and been allowed to return. Frankly, the results are usually disastrous, and the person has usually reverted and been banned again on fairly short order.
Mods have received some email from Alderbaran, and it does not look at all likely that the prerequisite apologies or desire to do better are there.
However, he brought nothing new to the argument and, in fact, only restated all his old complaints and excuses. There was no reason to reinstate him and he was so informed. This, we hope, is the end of the story.
Just for the record, Jack Dean Tyler was not banned (in the immediate case) for trolling, intemperate speech, or insulting other posters. He was banned after he sent a suspected virus to a moderator. Of course, it is very likely he would have been banned eventually anyway, given his style.
If I recall correctly (and I am not going to try to search for a thread so old), someone asked why he had not been banned sooner, and one of the moderators responded that some posters seemed to enjoy arguing with him. So if you are comparing JDT with Aldebaran, even JDT was given some slack, and it’s hard to say just how long he would have lasted if he hadn’t tried sabotage.
