I don’t think it was the type of film ever expected to premiere at one of the name-brand festivals?
On looking it up it is is a festival that celebrates and awards cinematography and cinematographers.
So it is an appropriate venue to honor Halyna Hutchins as she was born in the Ukraine which is next to Poland.
But still no announcements as to a streaming service deal or premiere in the U.S.
Yeah, sounds more like a tribute to Hutchins than anything else.
Note: Just “Ukraine.” Including the article is the old Russophile formulation.
Not really making a great case for herself as having been a responsible owner and user.
New info:
A New Mexico judge has declined to reconsider criminal charges against Alec Baldwin over the fatal shooting on the set of “Rust” in October 2021.
“Because the State’s Amended Motion raises arguments previously made, and arguments that the State elected not to raise earlier, the Court does not find the Amended Motion well taken,” the decision said.
The movie has finally premiered:
Has anyone seen any announced distribution deals?
No. Sounds like the money is mostly going to the family of the lady who was killed.
If a movie ever qualified to have its insurance pay out, it’s this one or The Crow.
So the criminal case against Baldwin is finally over.
Alec is suing the prosecutors for malicious prosecution. While he’s probably not wrong, and he probably has a fairly strong case against then, I feel like he’s pushing his luck. For both legal and PR reasons, I would’ve though the best thing for him to be doing right now is distancing himself from this whole chapter of his life.
I cant disagree. Yep, the prosecutors clearly were doing it for the publicity, but sometime you have to let go.
Considering special prosecutor Kari Morrissey was all-in on taking down Baldwin up to the end, and considering the DA’s office made noises about “not exhaustively prosecuting this” when they withdrew their appeal (with the implication that, under the law, they could), this might be a pre-emptive attempt to shut down any further efforts by the state to revive the matter. Getting the DA’s people on the record as to why they prioritized Baldwin’s prosecution when there were many other people ahead of him in the chain of responsibility would go a long way toward achieving that.
Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna is now available on Hulu in the US and Disney+ elsewhere.
What about the movie itself? I heard it was finished and premiered somewhere. I wonder if they drop it on rental streaming or something.
However, it has yet to secure a U.S. or U.K. distributor. According to Deadline, international sales for the film were handled by Capstone, with distribution rights sold in several territories, including Latin America and Australia…
The future of Rust’s domestic release remains uncertain. Discussions with potential distributors have been ongoing, but some buyers are reluctant due to the film’s tragic backstory.
The legal troubles surrounding Baldwin have further complicated the film’s release. While Baldwin’s own charges were dismissed, he has since filed a lawsuit against prosecutors in New Mexico, keeping the film in the headlines for reasons beyond its artistic merits.
But since is money to be made I expect it to eventually be released.
Premiering May 2, Rust will have a limited theatrical release and will be available to buy for $14.99 to stream online on Apple TV, Prime Video and other video-on-demand platforms.

Here is a more positive review:
I’ll be honest, I will likely watch it just to see what it became.
Morbid-curiosity, a bit.
I like Baldwin and also Jensen Ackles as actors, so I might check it out just because of them.
In Los Angeles, it’s debuting this weekend at the Laemmle in Santa Monica.
ETA: and the one in Encino as well.
Ackles isn’t in it
