Alec Baldwin [accidentally] Kills Crew Member with Prop Gun {2021-10-21}

Ackles was originally in Rust, but his role was recast when production resumed.

Oh, that’s right, he dropped out of it. I forgot about that. My interest is less now.

I’ll give it a miss. Wouldn’t have wanted to see it without all the behind-the-scenes drama, since Westerns aren’t really my thing. To me, it would seem almost ghoulish to watch it now, unless I could be sure that every cent I paid to do so went to Halyna Hutchins’ family.

Hannah Guitierez Reed has served her time:

‘Rust’ armorer convicted in fatal on-set shooting death is released from prison

And I really hope she used at least some of that time to consider alternate careers. Even if she still wants to be a film armorer, we can hope she’s solidly blacklisted by the industry at this point. Can’t imagine any insurer would touch a production she’s armorer for, either.

If she is remorseful, I wish her the best. Tremendous errors made, probably not only by her, but definitely including her.

I hope she can go on and find another career, etc.

I would think that a felony conviction would bar her from any career that involves firearms. But IANAL.

Either way, it is inconceivable to me that she would work as an armorer again.

What production could afford the liability of hiring her?

Overseas perhaps, in lower rent, probably non-Western productions. Hope she doesn’t try, though.

ETA: A tell-all book or something similar wouldn’t surprise me. I’m not sure there is a relevant ‘Son of Sam’ law to prevent it in New Mexico.

I could imagine a woe-is-me victim narrative doing very well for her, particularly if she’s willing to shill herself out to the “right” podcasts and throw in some appealing partisan drivel.

Honestly, I’d be mildly impressed if she goes any other way.

Yeah, I don’t see any other job skills she can fall back on. And she’s lost any anonymity she ever had.

She has a couple advantages though.

  1. Famous dad with lots of connections in the entertainment industry.

  2. Familiarity with a film set and working on one.

While she might never (and absolutely should never) be an armorer again, other crew jobs with less responsibility and liability might be possible.

She has another advantage. Someone in power who hates Alec Baldwin.

Therein lies the podcast route. If she can stomach it.

The pay is often so low for those jobs that she may as well be waiting tables.

I wouldn’t trust her to get my order right.

Agreed. Not even if she used bullet points.
