Algonquin Language

I am searching for the Algonquin word for “owl”. I have found a couple of websites with some translations, but nothing that covers the word owl. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

There are a lot of different Algonquian languages. In Potawatomi, “owl” is kokoko and the plural is kokokoyum. For other Algonquian languages, see this list of online dictionaries of Native American languages

I always thought ASlgonquin language consisted of phrases like, “Pass me another gin, Dottie” and “Oh, Bob, here comes that actress you were cueing—excuse the baby talk!”

To second bibliophage, Algonquian is a family of languages, much the same as Indo-European is a family (with such diverse entries as Greek, English, and Hindi). I can imagine that trying to circle in on which specific language can be a vicious propostion.

As noted above, Algonquin is a family of languages. If you want to learn Delaware, there exists a set of indtructional tapes and books put together by Touching Leaves Woman before she died, and available from the Delaware people. I learned about this while researching “Weequehela”, and that was some time ago, so I don’t have the addresses.
