Alias 3/30 or: if you're spying and you know it clap your hands (SPOILERS)

It’s official. With the death of Emily last episode and the death of Diane this episode, everyone, but everyone on the show is a spy. Was there some way those of us not involved in the spy game could have figured out that Sydney was using that “first letter of each word scrambled” code?

I suppose if I had been sitting there with paper and pen working it out while Vaughn and Weiss did, I might have gotten it, but I don’t know for sure.

Anyway, I was more upset by the revelation that Caplan’s wife was Russian intelligence and Caplan was NSA. It made no sense, and was unnecessary. Bad choice, JJ.

Wait a second…did I miss something? Diane died? I thought she got into the car in front of his–she kissed him goodbye and said something like, “I’ll see you at home after I pick up the kids.”. I don’t think she was in the car.

But yeah, you are right–everyone’s a spy now. Everyone! It’s getting ridiculous! If Sydney ever gets a cat I will automatically assume it’s a specially trained spy cat or has been implanted with some sort of transmitter or recording device.

And if Kaplan was really NSA, wouldn’t they have checked him for “bugs” and found the cyanide implant in his arm? That plot is really stretching it, I think.

While I still immensely enjoy the show, I am not entirely pleased by the recent turn of events wherein everyone (everyone!) is a spy/agent/operative of some kind.

One of the reasons I initially found the show so intriguing was that Sydney lived a double life–she was a grad student, and she was a spy. Now, well, the spy stuff is exciting, but I rather liked the idea of finding out what a spy’s life would be like when she was surrounded by people who had no idea who she really was.

Also, Sydney’s never been to Vaughn’s apartment? What’s up with that?

She got into her minivan, and then drove off. Dixon got into his car, then got back out to say something to Sydney. Just as he started talking, Diane’s minivan went ker-blooey.

And then cut to a shot of the Evil Francine Clone putting away a transmitter and driving off.

Yes… I saw this multiple times on tape so I can confirm Francine was ordered by Sloane to kill Dixon’s wife, probably as some kind of twisted poetic justice for what Dixon did.

Couple of episode highlights (for me):
“Director” Bristow
Sydney’s turn as a Master of Disguise (turtle, turtle!)

I think the checkout guy in the Walgreens wasn’t a spy.

But don’t hold me to that.

(also, I’d venture to say a couple of the Moscow Urban cowboys weren’t, though we know some were)

Just wait until next episode when it’s revealed that the sorority girls she chatted up are an SD6 sleeper cell. They’re not gone, just underground in the Greek System!

They need to kill the Francine clone quick, because every time they show her it reminds me just how ridiculous the whole show has become. A clone?
