The last thing we saw of Rimbaldi stuff was some sort of time-stasis device that had kept a rose alive for hundreds of years. Either that, or it was some sort of cloning device.
I think that’s the only thing we’ve seen all season, other than the conclusion of the season finale (big globe of suspended water).
I thought this was a great episode, but I must admit I can’t imagine the show will be any good from now on. The coolest thing about it, which they exploited every single week and which worked every single time was Sydney’s status as a double agent. Keeping the truth from Sloane she he didn’t kill her. Keeping the truth from Dixon and Marshall so it didn’t ruin their lives. Failing to fully keep the truth from Sark and being unable to deal with it. Getting caught in untenable positions on ops because she had to switch one doohickey with another doohickey in Dixon’s pocket. Etc., etc. With that gone it doesn’t seem like it could possibly be as interesting, both from and action standpoint and from a character standpoint. However, I’m willing to give Abrams a shot, so I’ll be back next week.
Not quite. Sark Tells Sydney that Rutger bragged to him about cracking all of Sloane’s stuff from server 47. Sydney is suspicious because she only knows about 46 servers, and Sark tips her to the 747 locale. The CIA doesn’t get suspicious until they start reviewing the downloads which is why Syd brings Dixon into it to verify the security code after Jack gets nicked. Rutger obviously either didn’t know a thing about server 47 or didn’t crack anything on it. Sark and Sloane set up the entire organization.
Ah, but now the plot has reversed… instead of Syd and gang being on the inside working for the CIA, it looks like others are going to be working secretly in the CIA working for a new SD6 wannabe.
It won’t be easy to figure out Francie’s new identity…it is going to take awhile to realize Sloan (and wife?) are flying solo…and where does mom fit into this scenario.
I thought it was an excellent episode, and from what I have read, the plans are to make each episode a full story - without any (or much) carry over into the next. I am not sure how they intend to do that, but it makes perfect business sense - new viewers don’t feel left out and future episodes are easier to sell in syndication if there is not a “to be continued” story line all season.
So far, ALIAS has done a good job at keeping the stories interesting…I don’t see them screwing it up now. This episode simply cleaned up a lot of loose ends and created a whole new slate.
I had heard that the Ethan Hawk episode that will be shown on 2/2 was originally supposed to be shown as the post-Superbowl episode and the one we saw after the Superbowl (“Phase 1”) was supposed to be shown on 2/2. But JJ thought “Phase 1” was a stronger episode and switched them around.
I also heard that there might have been some re-editing of the two episodes after they got swapped to straighten out any timeline issues. Someone thought the Will/Francie kiss and Francie getting shot was originally in the Ethan Hawk episode. The re-editing could explain why Francie wasn’t in Las Vegas like Sidney told Will to do. Maybe that was a mistake in editing.
I’ve avoided this thread for days, waiting for when I had the time to watch this episode on tape. I finally was able to watch it last night.
It’ll be interesting to see how they deal with all the changes.
I think they’ll be able to maintain the double-agent style tension somehow, yet I’m so vague as to how, that I’ll remain as a viewer until they succeed or fail. On the other hand, Jennifer Garner is probably enough to keep me watching.
FWIW, I hope they don’t abandon the Rembaldi sub-plot. It provided an overriding sense of mystery and wonder, that made the episodes deeper and more interesting than a simple spy story.
One thing I don’t think has been discussed: how this’ll all impact the plot threads with Sydney’s mom. She’s starting to win the trust – grudging though it may be, in some cases – of Sydney, Jack and Vaughn. It’ll be interesting to see if she and Sark have really parted ways, or if her surrender was part of this whole plan.
My prediction (and it’s not a spoiler, just speculation): the identity of Syd’s father is going to come into doubt, and Sloane will at least believe he’s her real dad. See, he and Irina go way back…
One other thing I like about the major plot turnabouts: Sloane’s actually menacing again. This season, I was beginning to think he was not nearly as threatening as he wanted to believe, but now I see I’ve underestimated him. How long has he known about Syd and Jack? Since Sark told him? I don’t know, but he plays his cards close to his vest, and that imbues him with fresh menace.
My guess is, at least since the assassination attempt Syd made in Japan, and probably longer. Maybe as far back as the end of season 1. The real question is, how long have they been working together, and is Sark still working for Irina?
