Alien Siege. Sci Fi channel. based on book?

I just caught part of this and though I am not a Sci Fi type person, this story line intrigues me.

I don’t think it’s based on a book. The Sci-Fi Channel is calling it “an original telefilm.” When they base things on books, they generally trumpet it to the skies. Instead of saying “an original telefilm” they would holler “At last! The long-awaited film version of the beloved classic, Alien Siege.”

I could be wrong, though. It happens occasionally.

I believe that it is an original script written by Bill Lundy, Paul Salmoff, and Ian Valetine. It is a very intriguing story line, and the reviews that I have seen, based on a nov 2004 screening were positive. My largest concerns is the fact that the script was supposedly written as a political allegory and the number of poor movies that Sci Fi channel has recently produced.

Dispite these concerns, the movie does sound very good, has an ambitious plot, and looks somewhat reminiscent of the old 80’s “V” miniseries. “Alien Siege” has the US government and military capitulating to superior alien demands, an alien group that can’t return home, a secret behind the need for these 8 million humans, an alien that turns sympathetic to humans and questions what is being done, a brilliant human scientist whose own daughter is chosen for “extraction” which causes him to join the resistance, and of course the obligatory charismatic resistance leader with a sexy female sidekick (his second in command).

With all the elements, it does seem like it would have made a good mini-series as opposed to just a movie. From what I have seen and heard, I have high expectations, I just hope that the complete movie can live up to it.

I was really into watching it last night, me who does not normally watch Sci-fi or any type of story-lined show ( sorry, I have a short attentionspan.) and I said to myself, " I think I like this and could get use to this…"
And my cable went out.

I took it as a sign.
Meh. It will be out on DVD eventually.
