All F-15s grounded except for "critical" missions

Very uninformative Reuters story here. I recall some years back when a good part of the fleet was gounded when it was discovered some control linkages could be re-attached backwards after some maintenance work, or maybe that was F-16s. I believe they modifed a part to make it fit only one way. Hopefully it’s something rather simple.

The good news is that whatever the problem discovered in a recent crash was, the pilot was able to eject safely.

Uninformative? Did you not catch this fascinating bit of info that somehow made it past the government censors -

Gadzooks! Who knew that the F15 could shoot down…

Nah, it’s too much work.

It being my favorite since the F4U, bad news about the F15 makes me sad.

Well, there are aircraft that are instead designed to drop bombs on stationary ground targets, or tanks, or ships, or do recon…

F-16s don’t have control likages.

Sure they do. The actuators need to be attached to the control surfaces. There are no linkages that run all the way from the stick and oedals, but there are linkages.

It’s no secret that F-15s have high maintenance issues. I recall reading once that the average F-15 spends 30% of its time out of service for mechancial problems above and beyond routine maintenance.
