All Hallowed Rants

These places are great.

As a vet tech, I can tell you that animals are just as likely, if not more likely, to be allergic to the protein in a food vs. the grain. As an added bonus, if the z/d doesn’t work, Science Diet offers a 100% money back guarantee - even if you use 90% of the bag.

More of a peeve than a rant:

My iphone is unlocked and I have the iMessage app open. Hubby txts me a short video, so before I play it I turn the phone volume down to one bar. Press play. Phone volume suddenly switches to full volume. WTF!?

Another peeve about the iMessage app: the new feature whereupon you hold down the send button and it will pull up a small menu of “text effects”. I never, ever use that feature and yet about 50% of the time it registers my touch of the send button to be a “hold down”, so I always have to taptaptaptap TAP trying to dismiss that annoyance and then touch send again.

It wasn’t my fault!!! I was just an innocent bystander to the system failing due to Mother Nature hating evil oil guys.

I did have a somewhat serious conversation with my BB about your question because dinner time is for relaxing so silly hypothetical questions like that are fun.

At this point in time, when the entire area has been condemned due to FEMA recognized flooding, burning our home down would be highly questionable. The insurance payout will be the same no matter what. Questions might be asked as to how I managed to burn down a damp, moldy home with a kitchen fire. My BB is now concerned that maybe I shouldn’t be allowed to touch anything that runs off natural gas anymore.

I’m totally in favor of that. To me one of the selling points of any home is “no gas”. Yes yes, it’s cheaper. And riskier. And if you can’t cook as well on electrical as on gas, the issue is not the kitchen, it’s the cook.

My late father, an Electrician, was known to mutter “Go Gas, Go Boom”

Why do i make an effort to remember my family’s special days when mine get ignored?

I know the feeling.

I was reading that and I thought “Oh, her BB. It must be a flatlined post.”

Then it occured to me that I’ve been reading your posts for years without ever knowing what a BB is… is it like a BFF without the friend part? Maybe your Beach Baby (who’s also a Butt Buddy?) A cute robot sphere (a vintage one, seven models before BB-8)?

(Ooh, gotta remember never to “just look it up on Urban Dictionary”…)

BB = Beloved Butthead, I believe.

Depends on your stove- my parents got a shiny new one when we moved in to their current house. It looked great, but for some reason, the hob had a ridiculously low max temperature, not hot enough to deep fry. Until that point, we’d often had home made chips (UK chips, not US chips), which I loved, but that stupid stove could do no better than a soggy greasy mess.

And of course, it was brand new, and technically not faulty, so no, my parents weren’t going to get a better one. At least, not until I’d moved out. Bah.

Induction with a 120º max? I saw one of those last week and I’m still confused as to why would anybody buy one consciously. My induction plate gets to 160.

Actually with a proper gas hob that gets to deep fry temp/stir fry temp you are better off - when you turn the gas off, the heat stops, with electric burners there is residual heat in the heavy metal of the burner plate or coil. Now electric ovens are better for baking, as you do want the heat to linger, flame in an oven is less precise and is always flicking on and off to control heat.

Silly, I know, but when I am cooking on a hob, and I want the heat off, I want the heat off NOW, I don’t want to have to rummage around for something to put a hot pot on out of the way and hope it doesn’t get messed with. Turn off the gas, and the pan can sit right there where it was before.

And why hasn’t somebody with more initiative than I possess … why haven’t they started a November Rants Thread???

:smack::cool:

What heavy metal? They’re vitroceramic and, being completely flat, much more stable than the metal grilles of gas kitchens. As for the residual heat, normally what I do is use it. If I don’t want to use it I move the pot to one of the cold zones.

I’m not worried about an allergic reaction to the corn. It’s more of a “corn is a filler and has little to no nutritive value for the cat”. The current protein he’s getting is venison, but I’m going to switch to either duck or rabbit soon. On the plus side, his stool is firming and there have been no squirts for almost a week, so I think the increased medication is helping.

Nope, it wasn’t induction, it was just rubbish, really slow to heat as well. My parents didn’t actually choose it, the kitchen was all refitted for sale by the previous owner, who was presumably either an idiot, a cheapskate, or a sadist who realised he’d never have to use the stupid thing.

OK, I got a response from the seller of the VHS tape, who say they will send the correct item; I do not have to return the incorrect one; and they are sorry for the inconvenience. With the time I spent waiting for the wrong one, I’m skeptical, so I asked them to send me a picture of the correct item. No response yet.

I did find what appears to be a Spanish-language bootleg DVD, but I don’t want a dubbed version. I would accept subtitled.

Projammer is keeping an eye out for me (thanks).
