He graduates in May 2014. He wants to do clinical pharmacy because he was in retail for 6 years and had enough. We have St Jude, Baptist, St. Francis, Methodist/Lebonheur, and The VA here in Memphis so his prospects are great. We plan on staying here at least a yr after he graduates so he can do his residency then I want to move close to Nashville, which also has plenty of renowned hospitals

IIRC after Frances Perkins (first female cabinet member) was appointed Secretary of Labor there was depend in Congress over whether her paychecks should read Perkins or Wilson (her husband’s name). And yes at one time a man was legally entitled to his wife’s wages; it was part of the doctrine of coverture (whereby upon marriage a man & woman become one legal person & that person is the husband). Married Women’s Property Acts were necessary to override the common law on that. Ironically the first in the us was passed in Mississippi of all places.
My grandmother used to laugh at women who couldn’t pump their own gas (not that she didn’t make him pump if if the was traveling with a man or boy). Of course she and grandpa did own a general store with gas pumps. She was also the local postmistress (a job she beat out my grandfather despite him being a veteran).
Was he a pharmacist, a technician, or some other kind of retail person?
And have you had that baby yet?
I know a woman whose mother died very suddenly, and her father did not know how to heat a can of soup on the stove, pay a bill, run the vacuum, make a peanut butter sandwich, etc. He had never had to do any of those things!
She’s said many times that if anyone hears or reads this and thinks her father is a bad person, they’re mistaken.
pssst…never ask a very, very pregnant woman that. They’re liable to throw something at your head. ![]()
I find this funny on a certain level, because my last “secretary of some sort” job I had I was earning twice as much a year as the average American man and I could to afford to fly airplanes as a hobby. Yes, it was a high-level secretarial job but I still made damn good wages, as high level secretaries can and do.
If single parenthood is on the rise and you’ll agree mothers are more likely to care for children in a split relationship wouldn’t you be happy their incomes are rising? How do you feel women earning less would serve society as a whole?
You think the cost benefit analysis persuades single women to get pregnant and THEN find a husband?
And for particular effect:
“because the bell curve for men is flatter than women in terms of skills and marketability,”
:dubious:
He was a tech then a pharmacy intern for Walgreens.
And what Whynot said. Lol. My due date is tomorrow but nada baby as of yet
I agree with them, male animals dominate because they are stronger. Human males are also stronger therefore I think men should do the physical labor and fight wars and leave women to nurture,.,the country
But, dammit, that’s the proper order of nature! In any decent family, the woman is supposed to be the primary breadwinner! That’s why God gave her two strong feet, and two high heels, and her man a strong pimp hand and a sharp switchblade! You can’t interfere with the family as God the Godfather ordained it!
The panelists are right though that in most species the female drives the kids to school, cooks, and cleans the home, while the males perform roles such as IT consultancy.
Ha! My wife was the breadwinner, but now I am!
(Only because she quit her job to go back to school to get her second Master’s degree and she will most likely make more than me again as soon as she’s done with school).
I missed this, earlier, but you will also refrain from mangling usernames outside The BBQ Pit.
