It’s been an interesting time where I teach the last month or two. After a few years of relative quiet, the neighborhood gang feuds and other foolishness is escalating again. The body count so far: 1 dead, two wounded and two shooting incidents w/ no casualties due to poor marksmanship. In addition: several homeless families because of a string of arsons. I don’t bother to keep track of the assaults.
The prom was crawling with armed security. Commencement on Friday will be the same.
Crimoney. I was less likely to get shot 25 years ago in the Army.
Where are you located?
Where is this, so I can stay away?
In any school, the last month or month-and-a-half is insane. The kids go berzerk, while the teachers aren’t far behind.
Add guns into the mix, and there you go.
I’m in a blighted western Pennsylvania mill town not far outside of Pittsburgh. Although this place always had a reputation as a rough town, things went completely to shit with the collapse of the steel industry in the 80’s. It seems like everybody who was worth a damn packed up and left. We in the educational, law enforcement, and health fields deal with those who stayed.
