all these weight loss diets, whens someone going to formulate a weight gain diet?

Creatine supplementation is used to increase your body’s own creatine stores in the muscle. Your body uses creatine as a temporary energy storage medium. Larger creatine stores marginally increase your ability to work out more effectively. Creatine also causes your muscles to retain more water, which gives them fuller appearance and very slightly improves their ability to grow ( think of it this way : dehydration - bad, hydration - good ).

but no matter what the supplement compaines tell you it ain’t no magic bullet, just a supplement.

all the best sh1t is illegal. basically the most effective drugs work by overriding your body’s own regulation mechanisms (and are illegal) and the weak ones only work by giving your body extra substrate to work with ( and are legal ).

i dont really understand why drugs like HGH are illegal though, i never heard of any medical problems from HGH use.

I have often wondered this myself (I’m happy w/ my body but I’d like to add about 5 lbs so that my clothes will fit better); however, I would say the same thing to myself as I would say to some who was desperate to LOSE weight: focusing on eating healthy nutritious foods is more important than reaching your desired weight whether it’s going up or down on the scale.

So many dieters pay attention to carbs and fat, etc., while still ingesting crap into their bodies. You could go out and eat a bunch of doughnuts and potato chips (like Charlize Theron did to gain weight for her part in Monster), but you wouldn’t be doing your body any favors.

I remember watching a documentary on sumo meals. I found a good quote here.

I think if he wants big boobs and intestinal massages (never thought i’d type that out) then a sumo diet may be the way to go

what a f*cked up attitude. you should develop your body so that it best looks WITHOUT clothes, THEN you buy whatever clothes best fit on your body.

you DO NOT try to fit your body into the clothes you already have.

indeed.

people fail to make any distinction whatsoever between things like muscle mass, fat, and water weight. they just think its all the same, just weight

it just amazes me how stupid people really are.

people believe things like the idea that sweating makes you lose weight, or that playing basketball makes you tall. unbelievable.

Gee, I hadn’t thought of that.

Diet

Steak and potatoes

With a healthy dose of salads/fresh fruit/steamed veggies. By steak I mean most forms of beef, chicken and fish. By potatoes I mean starches (pasta, bagels). Select for your budget and schedule.

A protein shake or two a day may help, but most supplements are 21st-century snake oil (although a daily multi-vitamin supplement won’t hurt).

To some extent, 4-6 small meals are probably easier on your digestive system than 2-3 big meals.

(Some people swear by dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt – I am borderline lactose-intolerant, so I will let others advise).

Exercise

Stick to the basic movements

Bench press (pecs), military press and behind-neck press (delts), dips (triceps), standing curls using barbells or dumbbells (biceps), chinups and barbell rowing (lats). These will get you big. Dumbbell lateral raises and upright rowing will add to your shoulder development. If you have a long neck, you may also want to do some trapezius (‘traps’) work, like dumbell or barbell shrugs.

If you have no lower back injuries, try the squat and deadlift: they will get you growing like no other exercise known to man. I speak from experience. If you can’t squat, do some other, less-lower back intensive work, like hack squats.

Be patient – add weight gradually, but keep adding it.

If possible, use free weights – machines have their purposes, but they are not as good at getting you big.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, nutritionist, etc.

you think you did, but you didnt. you didnt analyze your body as it is, your body as it should be and formulate a strategy to make it happen.

how do i know you didn’t ? because its hard to face the actual amount of effort needed to go from average to perfect. on other hand its exceedingly easy to slim down to fit into some dress.

i see those weight loss commercials on TV with before and after photos and i go like “so is that supposed to be an improvement, or an achievement or something? a girl goes from a 160 pound tub of lard to a 120 pound tub of lard, whats the difference ? same shit different size”

try to get into this shape :

your dress size might remain unchanged altogether, but it would take more work than you could ever imagine.

a pretty good advice considering this is not a bodybuilding board.

Didn’t Cecil do an article about this?

Yep, he did. Not that detailed, but he did.

I would just eat healthy, excercise with weights, and let the weight take care of itself. Eating starchy calorie intensive foods alot is a good way to cause cardiovascular problems over time, and possibly diabetes. You might be lucky and not have a problem, but you have to ask yourself if your appearance is more important than your long-term health, and whether it would remain so if you no longer had your health.

It is just possible that she tried buying clothes that fit, but couldn’t find them, genius. Unless you’re a woman, you should probably shut up. No, you should definitely shut up.

If you wish you respond, I invite you to do so in the Pit, since you can’t here.

Sorry, chief… hadn’t had my dinner yet. Won’t happen again.

Legal issues aside, one reason it would be a terrible mistake to take steroids is that the effects only last as long as you take the steroids. This makes them an attractive option to athletes, who have a very limited window of opportunity to make their fame and fortune - if they can take steroids during those few years they can maximize their opportunities in life, and afterwards cease taking them and hope to avoid long-term side effects. For a regular person, you either have a short term weight gain or a lifetime of steroids with who knows what effects.

I don’t hold myself out as some all round expert on the subject, but I would suggest some nutrition/calorie supplement such as Ensure. Someone I know needed to gain weight due to a gastrointestinal condition, and his doctor recommended this.

Couldn’t have put it better myself F. U. Shakespeare.
The key point that most people seem to miss (even possibly the OP) is the distinction between weight, muscle and fat.

(Warning: Generalisations ahead)

When women talk about ‘losing weight’, they are almost invariably fixated with the scales. They generally mean that they want to look (and feel) better about their body image. As an example, my girlfriend now apparently weighs more than she ever has, and she has gone up one or two dress sizes, due to her slightly broader shoulders and increased bust size. By traditional standards she has failed, and yet she looks fantastic.

Men seem to have less of an issue in this area, although there are plenty of guys that want to add more weight or bulk (as in the OP), however I would expect that a few minutes of questioning would lead him to agree that he would actually like more muscle mass, with a proportionate amount of additional bodyfat. Without resorting to illegal and potentially dangerous steroids, the only way to achieve an increase in muscle is to follow a sensible weight resistance program, including consuming enough food, over a period of years. In my experience, 40lb of muscle/fat (at a ratio of c.80/20) is certainly achievable in 36 months.
