i am 6’5 and 160lbs . i want to get to 200lbs. 40 lbs is NOT alot of weight. you can see my ribs and collar bones and every bone pretty much. how do i gain that weight? what can eat? it seems that the opposite of weight loss diets would work but it doesnt. any suggestions? i hear that weight gainer stuff is reallllly bad so i dont want to go that route
what ever I am eating seems to work for me - I am steadily gaining weight year on year.
Start with lots of snacks during the day. Sugary drinks a plenty. Double helpings at every meal. Oh and lots of good movies and a remote control to curb the urge to do any exercise.
Rapid weight gain has risks, so seek med advice, but…
Combine starchy foods (pasta, white rice, white breads, etc) with high fat foods at all your meals. High fat foods are fatty meats, oils, non-lean cuts of poultry, fish, etc.
Eat simple sugars in between, like sodas, fruit drinks and candy. This adds weight and triggers more fat storage, and as a bonus! : you feel hungry real soon when your insulin levels go nuts.
Eat well beyond the 2500 calories you need everyday.
Overall, you’re better off eating 4 good meals a day, a high calorie but nutritious snack or two , and lifitng weights.
Dr. David Reuben did.
There are no widely known weight gain diets because the demand just isn’t there on the scale that it exists for weight loss. You should be able to find something over here.
lift and use steroids.
you can gain 40 pounds just by lifting. with steroids you can gain twice as much.
you should only eat more as your body’s needs for calories increase ( exercise and steroids both increase caloric expenditure, and some steroids also increase appetite for example 1-Test, Equipoise ).
if you just start eating more and do nothing else you will gain the weight in form of fat. that will cut both the quality of your life and your life expectancy in half.
oh by the way dont listen to advice these guys gave you above. personally i think they should be shot in the nuts. follow their advice and you will become type 2 diabetic pretty soon.
also, this board is very poor when it comes to information you’re seeking.
Yeah, like using steroids just so you can get fatter. Or that someone with a 6’5"/160lb frame is going to put on 40 lbs by lifting weights.
5 - 7 lbs a year of lean muscle with HEAVY lifing is more reasonible.
Basically, if you just lift without changing your diet, you’ll just get more ripped and maybe even skinnier. If you only eat a lot of crap and never go to the gym, you’ll turn into a skinny fat man - a thin guy with a gut and the muscle one of a veal.
Interesting, the same guy who wrote Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex but Were Afraid to Ask, accroding to the review. Going by his previous work, I’d take his advice with a grain of salt.
msmith, i asume that at 6’5 and 160 lbs he doesn’t have much fat to lose. also there is no reason anybody would want to gain fat. lifting is the most important thing for gaining muscle, that is not to say its the only thing he should be doing, but he should AT LEAST be doing that.
40 pounds isn’t much for his frame. i would say with exercise alone it would take him about 7 years to do it. with exercise and proper diet ( 7 meals a day ) about 4 years. with exercise, diet and steroids about 1.5 - 2 years.
there is nothing else he can take that will be more effective for reaching his goals than steroids. is it worth the side effects ? that depends, in his case probably not because he hasn’t tried other, safer options yet. steroids should be used AFTER the diet and training are already optimal.
A low-fat diet always seemed to make me gain weight when I was trying to lose
Is it just me, or are Sumo wrestlers pretty much the heaviest athletes on the planet? Don’t they have some sort of special diet that would be right up your alley?

The use of anabolic steroids without a prescription is generally illegal in the United States. You may not give advice on the SDMB that encourages illegal activity. Do not make the mistake again.

I haven’t read the SD for while (so I may be more sensitive to lousy humour), but this cracked me up so much.
1.5-2 years with diet, exercise & anabolics just for 40 lbs? ectomorphs usually respond best to steroids, i have seen people gain 30lb in 3 months on their first cycle.
But as to the OP, legal ways would be creatine, intense exercise, and a high protein diet. alpha lipoic acid may (emphasis on may) also help you build muscle as well.
What kind of influence does Creatine have? After I finish cutting and go into a gain phase, would creating do anyhting?
Additonally, would Creatine do anything? :o
Creatine puts more water in your muscles, allowing you to lift weights for longer. I’ve never heard of the water-weight being a large weight-gain factor. I’ve never used the stuff myself, you can get big enough lifting weights and eating high-protein.
Creatine phosphate is the very first energy source your body uses during anaerobic activity. The more you have, the more reps you can crank out. That’s where the gains from creatine come in.
you are correct, people do sometimes gain 30 lbs in two months on drugs like Testosterone, D-Bol or Anadrol, but HALF if not more of that gain is water, which goes away after the end of cycle.
the gains in dry muscle weight ( unlike the gains in water weight ) take much more time, but you also get to keep them much longer, and they translate more directly into strength. i don’t consider water gain to be gain at all.
another thing i assumed was that the OP would start with smallish doses during his first cycles, and gradually build up. surely if he were to go straight into dosing like a professional bodybuilder he could gain faster, but that would not be wise.
my apologies for suggesting the OP should break the law. next time will convey the relevant information without making any suggestions
