Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall are the only two albums I can listen to without having to skip through any bad songs.
Urban Hymns by the Verve.
Any of Opeth’s first three albums, especially My Arms, Your Hearse.
Holy Diver – Dio
Live After Death – Iron Maiden
and many, many more…
Oh, and from the OP Appetite for Destruction, Guns n’Roses is one of the greatest of all time!
NP: Blackwater Park - Opeth
So many good one’s mentioned…
I’ll add Eric Clapton, “Unplugged”
such a great one!
so I have to give the nod to Disintegration by The Cure. It’s the saddest and most beautiful recording I’ve ever heard, and contains some of the best lyrics ever put to a melody.
A big “righto!” to aoty’s selection, California by Mr. Bungle. The mark of true genius lies in how closely it resembles madness. No one walks that tightrope like Mike Patton.
Although I did enjoy Urban Hymns, rockstar, I feel The Verve’s best work appeared on their first album, A Storm in Heaven. Ashcroft and McCabe were a terrific combo, and I was sad to see them split up.
btw, my Top 20 llist can be found on the Bands page of my website:

A Storm in Heaven is another album I love but I think of it more as wonderful atmospheric music like Pink Floyd’s Obscured by Clouds. A perfect album for a movie or to toke to but by itself not as good. Urban Hymns is a perfect album all the way around IMHO.

Floyd– Animals
[sup]Floyd seems to have a lot of fans here![/sup]
Tough one!
I can narrow it down to three.
- Depeche Mode - Violator
- The Cure - Disintegration
- The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland.
/Andreas
I can’t believe nobody has mentioned Running Jumping Standing Still by Spider Koerner and Willie Murphy yet.
Have you no culture!
I can narrow it down to threee.
Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours
Chicago 9
Jethro Tull’s Aqualung
Van Morrison-
Veedon Fleece- Great moody tunes that melt into each other and weird lyrics
Astral Weeks- Jazzy and haunting
Bob Dylan-
Blood on the Tracks- A stellar musician at his peak
Murmur- R.E.M.
The White Album – The Beatles
Wow…this is as tough as it gets…
I have to name at least 3.
No…wait…4.
Discipline King Crimson
::This record…what can be said…wow
Perfect From Now On Built To Spill
::You should check these guys out if you have ANY inclination towrds bands like Pavement, Neil Young or Ween
Roxy and Elsewhere Frank Zappa
::In my humble opinion, the best live record ever made by any artist
West Side Story Oscar Peterson
::Some consider this a lightweight jazz set from the great Oscar P…whatever.
The best? In the Court of the Crimson King King Crimson.
Some runners up:
- Electric Ladyland Jimi Hendrix
- Astral Wakes Van Morrison
- Atom Heart Mother Pinkfloyd
- Let it Bleed Rolling Stones
Along different lines:
Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine recorded at St. Mark’s in Venice, c1990. John Eliot Gardiner conducting. Faaaabulous. My desert island recording.
rivulus
This is the hardest question ever. Wars have been fought over lesser matters.
But for now I’d have to say it was;
Divine Madness by Madness. For sheer, unadulterated happy genius.
closely followed by;
‘Never Mind the Bollox here’s the Sex Pistols’
‘Punk in Drublic’ by NOFX
‘Hello Rockview’ by Less Than Jake
‘Turn the Radio off’ by Reel Big Fish
‘Nimrod’ by Greenday
‘Rock the Plank’ by the Mad Caddies.
just another vote for
The White Album
if you don’t agree, that means you
just haven’t listened to it in awhile…
The Wall- Pink Floyd
Ya know, The Wall is my least favorite Pink Floyd album. Of course it’s great. but Animals is far more interesting to me.
How about “Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere” by Neil Young and Crazy Horse
