"All You Need Is Love" Video

I was watching the video of the Beatles song “All You Need Is Love”
(- YouTube)and and I had a few questions about it.

BTW, I really like this song so don’t feel I am criticizing it by asking these questions.

  1. Was this really a live session or was some of the music/vocals pre-recorded? I noticed the brass and strings section playing along, but the vocals seem to have been pre-recorded. It sounds oddly staged to me somehow now I listen to it 30 years later.

  2. Each of the Beatles had headphones on, which given the the size of the room would make sense so that they could hear their own voices, but what would Ringo be listening to? His drums only? A mix from all of the mics and instruments? And would Paul be listening to his own voice, his voice and his instrument, or all of the various mics and instruments?

I think the relevant Wikipedia article answers most of this.

Thanks Leaffan… I would never have thought to look in Wiki for this kind of info…
