I shudder to think of it, after what they did when “Puppet Masters” and “Starship Troopers” were supposedly made. Actually, it was just movies that had some similar plot elements, and copied some names, at least that’s what I want to think.
Sounds more like Asimov’s “End of Eternity.” Somehow I think the actual story of “All You Zombies” will be a five minute subplot of this - if we’re lucky.
There are very, very few directors I would trust with this story. In fact, I can’t think of any of them off the top of my head.
Nor I, Chronos. Maybe Nolan to bring the ‘what is real’ atmosphere he does so well. But, seriously, they’re going to have to expand it enormously to make it work. All I can hope is that it maintains its weirdness and doesn’t become Time Patrolman or Paratime Police. Both of those might be awesome, sure. But that wouldn’t be ‘-All You Zombies-’.
I loved that story but had to read it and re-read it several times before I could develop enough of a grasp to explain it to someone else. And now that it’s been many years since my last re-reading, I’d probably be fuzzy on the chronology again. I’d love to see it made well but can’t help but wonder how they would preserve the surprise while still showing the character in various personas at various times.
Which is all it warrants. It’s a great story, but there’s just not enough story in the story to make a whole movie.
So, they’re giving it to the guy who made Battleship?
It would have made a great Twilight Zone episode.
I could have sworn this has been filmed at least once for one of those Anthology series like Masters of Horror. Wasn’t it?
