Allergen in NYC over past few days

A friend of mine and I both had really bad allergy attacks over the past few days. Mine started up around Thursday, and his started up around Saturday. Does anyone have any idea what that might be to? Sometimes I get allergies and sometimes I don’t, so I have no idea what it is I might be allergic to.

I appreciate any help narrowing it down.

Thanks.

I was out of town for the weekend, so I don’t think it was me.

Hopes that helps narrow it down.

There was a big cloud of Sahara dust (which is exactly what it sounds like) that hit the Caribbean about two weeks ago and was expected to hit Florida a few days later. Could it be a last remnant of it? It was allergy hell when it was around here.

Are you serious or f***ing with me? Maybe you’re whooshing me, but does Sahara dust really get blown across the ocean in contiguous clouds?

Tree pollen? Up here in Westchester we’re swimming in the stuff. I live in a wooded area and the breezes lately kick up thick clouds of yellow dust.

dead serious. I thought I was being whooshed myself when I heard it the first time. I have since received some incredible pictures by email and googled some more. The news about FL I also got when Googling for pics.

It was hell here. 5 days of not seeing the hills that are no more than 5 Km from here. Watery eyes, serious congestion, warnings on the radio to stay inside as much as possible, all furniture covered in dust daily.

These storms were also “blamed” for the low number of hurricanes last season.

let me see if I can find some better ones I got on email and upload them for you to take a look.

That’s nothing.

I just watched a Nova episode, World in the Balance: China Revs Up, which began with air quality researchers attempting to find out how much America pollutes its air by placing special receptors on the west coast to catch the (presumably) clean air flowing east off the pacific to establish a baseline, and finding that the air entering the country off the ocean has often already been noticeably polluted…by China.

There is an “air stagnation advisory” for New York City with particularly high levels of ozone. Maybe you’re sensitive to the high level of pollutants. Here across the Hudson we have a high pollen forecast.

I was gonna mention the same thing. This past weekend, we were kayaking a favorite local river. The wind carried some fine yellow dust that got everyone sneezing. I’ve never had a problem with inhalant allergies, but I was sneezing/snufffling the rest of the weekend.
