Has anyone been having allergy problems that are worse than normal ?
I have been suffering terribly, tried everything from Flonase to Claratin and everything in between.
My main problem is mold spores, the counts are through the roof, mainly because we have been blessed (sarcasm) with about 15-16 inches of rain over normal. (Philadelphia suburbs).
We had a damp spring and early summer. I was suffering til it finally got hot enough to dry stuff up. Now I’m burning up. Can’t win.
Have you done the allergy shots?
I thought things were going good for most of August with no ragweed problem.
Then I got a cold from hell. And ragweed and friends decided to pile on.
Nothings working this time. (Generic Claritin and now Allegra. The other big OTC has side effects I don’t want. And anything that ends in “-D” is taboo.)
An occasional rain would help a lot. So of course we’ve gone a month without anything more than a few drops.
I’m in no. Illinois and the last 3 weeks have been horrible. Mold count through the roof. I can’t wear my contacts because my eyes are so itchy. Coughy, sneezly, and ezhausted. I take Allegra, Dlonase, and Singulair cuz I have mild asthma. It’s been hot and humid and has rained for the last 3 days. I can’t wait for the first frost.
I live in Austin, TX, the allergen capital of the universe. This year has been horrid. I hardly leave my house, have air filters running constantly in every room, and buy kleenex by the case. My allergist suggested I do the shots again. I had shots from about age 5 or so until I went to college (that was in Illinois) and they did help. Then I moved to Los Angeles and had almost no allergies the entire time I lived there, except when I visited a friend in the desert and found out I am allergic to something out there.
Now that we have been in Sneezeville for almost 10 years I suspect it’s time to get the shots again. Anyone have experience with the usefulness of the shots at an (ahem) advanced age?
Northern Indiana. I’m new to the area, so I don’t know what’s normal, but I’ve been miserable for a couple of weeks: Not sneezing, eyes are fine, sinuses aren’t a problem, but I have post-nasal drip that is somewhere between driving me crazy and killing me. My throat itches or tickles, and I start coughing. Intermittently, all day, all night. I wake up in the middle of the night and need to take another throat drop to ease the tickle. I have to carry throat drops everywhere because drinking water usually has little effect on stopping the itch.
I have asthma, so coughs aren’t unusual, but this is the worst kind: ineffective, but so intense that I have coughed until I threw up.
In the spring, Indiana had an exceptionally high amount of rain. I hope these allergies (which were well controlled by meds in the Southwest and the southern High Plains) are not going to be part of my life every year.
I’ve heard that said of Austin before. My sister and Family live there. They all suffer.
My Daddy had allergy shots up til he died at 86. He swore by them. (He didn’t die of allergies, btw)
