Allowances for people in their Twenties?!

I just spoke to a friend from Pakistan. His name is Mirza. It seems that what zeeshan claims is NOT true. There ARE part time jobs in Pakistan…AND no one is BOUND to live with their parents at age 20.He agrees with me that zeeshan should earn his own money if he feels his parents are cheap.

My parents sorta give me an allowance you could say. $1000/month and they pay rent ($600/mo), and tuition. that grand covers food, and whatever else I may want or feel I need.

Yes I am lucky. Thing thing is i am very independent and I NEVER ask my parents for money. They seem happy to deposit into my account and actually call and ask if I need more when a month or so goes by without a deposit. Could I scale back and use less money? Yes, I end up putting a lot of it into investments and savings.

I tried awhile to be financially independent. Its hard to do school full time and hack it in the real world and i give major props to those who do. I can’t do it. Electrical engineering major is hard enough as it is without worrying about how to make rent, pay for my books, or even eat.

And yes I do work. I have a very good consulting business part-time, I work full time during the summer and I worked during high school just for the hell of it (more like professional development).

My parents know I am grounded and have a good sense for money and all that. So it bothers them less to give me money.

My sister on the other hand is a spoiled brat… but she’s 16 and I think she’ll get over it hopefully.
