This is what that Kent Horvind aka Dr. Dinosaur runs around spouting. Is he in the YEC camp then? I’ve never heard him mention it (Young Earth) before.
Sorry for the slight hijack, I’ve not heard of the Young Earth/Old Earth terms before.
He surely is a YEC.
Check out the talk.origins website. There’s a lot of information on the subject.
I’ll just note that the title and the OP together conflate “people” with “Americans”.
Too true. I’d be extremely surprised if even one percent of Australians took biblical creation stories as literal. Even in the conservative catholic schools I went to in my youth, it was treated as being “allegorical”.
That’s right; few European catholics or protestants believe in a Young Earth.
However as it happens I live next to some people who are Jehovah’s Witnesses;
Almost alone in this country, they believe in a 6000 year old creation.
(I am not sure about the state of belief among our Muslim or Jewish community however…)
How did it all go wrong in the USA?
Hovind is a YEC and he’s quite a dishonest one, IMO.
Here’s a good website about him.
One thing that I…actually sort of like about Hovind…(waits for the books and other objects to stop being tossed)…Is that he’s more then willing to debate people. He loses (IMO) to be sure, but it’s always nice to hear someone like Massimo run through all of Hovind’s thoroughly debunked objections…
Oh, you’re not alone. I’ve watched most of the Real Audio stuff he’s got on his web site (www.drdino.com). He’s quite an animated character and at least he pretends to try to use science to back up his claims rather than say “Because God SAID SO!!”. He might have been good back in his high school teacher days before he went fundie. Did you know that he’s now trying to prove dragons existed? I like dragons as much as anybody, but :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Every time he says “they forgot about the FLOOD” (I just love the way he says flood), I hit him in the head with a soft object or sucker dart. He doesn’t seem to mind this.
