Almost 8 tons of cyanide Missing in Mexico

Ok, here’s a thought… I heard that before the September 11th tragedy, someone jokingly (?) predicted that a terrorist group would take a fully loaded plane and crash into a building (WTC) as the perfect revenge or crime.

Now, there is talk about how, again, it was predicted that another way to cause a mass freak-out would be to poison the water supply of a largely populated place.

I am trying to make a connection here, but doesn’t this missing cyanide thing kind of play into the whole water poisoning idea? I mean, what the hell is anyone going to do with 8 tons of cyanide? Poisoning a fresh water supply would seem perfectly fit for terrorism being that when cyanide makes contact with water, it creates poisonous gases - hence the gas chamber.

Could this happen?

"HONEY, Mexico (AP) - A rural police officer in central Mexico stumbled across 70 drums of sodium cyanide near a dirt road Wednesday, after an 18-day nationwide search for a stolen shipment of the deadly poison, some of which could still be missing."

I found this online just recently…

You’re not labouring under the illusion that because ‘cyanide’ is involved, that this must be horribly toxic are you?
Sodium cyanide isn’t good for you, but it doesn’t form hydrogen cyanide upon exposure to water.

According to the local authorities, it’s not terrorism that’s suspected, but petty thieves. On discovering what they’d nicked they dumped most of it.

[“When they realised what the drums contained, they apparently dumped them off the back of a truck, because they had no use for the substance,” Manuel Mendez Marin, the head of the Puebla state investigative police, told Mexican media.

“That reinforces our theory that these were people who didn’t know what they were doing,” he said.](http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_598459.html?menu=)

Some reports suggest all drums have been found.
