I will do this, Drain Bead and thank you.
You mention natural remedies. Have you read Robin Cook’s novel Intervention?
When D and I were married before, she had a horrific case of psoriasis. Horrific to the point of making her cry with pain. I spent many nights bathing her in tar solutions and wrapping her in Saran Wrap to hold the tar in and we even went to a faith healer.
Luckily, the disease (classified as a “nervous condition” - is that still the fact, Doper Docs?) disappeared and although she still has a bit of it, it is no longer as bad as it was.
She is very precious to me and I want to do anything I can so that she doesn’t have to suffer one day of pain.
Thanks, Y’all! Love You!
Bill
It’s not a nervous disease, it’s an autoimmune disease, but it can be triggered in some people by stress or some other traumatic event in their lives.
In a way, I’m a specialist, I feel, as I’ve lived with psoriasis for the last 51 years. A specialist? you’ll wonder. -Yes, to the extent that I have learnt that there are no answers, no cures, that a treatment that may work in one case might make things worse in another case. Some people do well in controlling it with sunlight; for others, sunlight makes the psoriasis worse. I’ve also learnt that if I find a good moisturizing cream that works for me, I should stock up on it. Experience has taught me that it is usually discontinued within a year or two of my discovering it.
I wish I knew something about gout. Good luck to D.
Good luck to you both, Quasi. It’s nice to hear a medical success story.
OMG, I was just wondering if the gout diagnosis was confirmed for D. I presume that she had tests of some kind I read a thread in the Pit where someone mentions psoriatic arthritis being in the news. Has that been considered as a possibility?
The reason I wrote OMG is that I’ve suffered from psoriatic arthritis for 8 years and it didn’t cross my mind when I read the thread. Then I googled “gout” and read that an accurate diagnosis was essential since gout sometimes mimics other conditions, among others… psoriatic arthritis. http://www.medicinenet.com/gout/page4.htm#diagnosed
Sooooo glad to hear she’s recovering!
You know, a few years ago, I was going in for a gastric bypass of my own. When I was undergoing the pre-op testing, one of the nurses asked me who my family Dr was; I said “Dr. Williams” she said “Terry Williams?” I said “Yeah”, she said “When did he come back to work?” I said I didn’t even know he’d been gone!
Next time I saw him, I asked him about it. He had had a perforated bowel that even he failed to diagnose! He kept listening, with his stethoscope, and hearing ‘normal’ bowel sounds! Finally, his wife, who is a PA, forced him to go the ER (wives have that power, as I’m sure you know!) and he was diagnosed. He underwent major surgery and was actually out of practice for six months. But as I understand it, he was damned lucky to be alive after all that!
So, good for you and D for getting that taken care of, ASAP!
