Awhile back I saw a concept for road lighting that involved a flourescent fiber-optic tube of some sort running alongside the road and providing constant illumination that was more accurately focused on the road and avoided dark spots. I thought it was a nifty futuristic idea, but that was 15 years ago and not a peep since.
Anybody remember this concept? Anything come of it? The main objection I can think of is that if a tube goes out, you lose lighting along the ENTIRE stretch of road. But I say that without any real idea what the technology was.
