If you’re referring to the Hhow to flame thread, I was one who argued it should remain open. It was clear that the OP wasn’t trying to incite a board war. Crandolph’s thread leaned more toward the post count itself rather than using it to foster a conversation. IMHO, of course.
Well, not really. The tree was more balsa wood than anything else; in fact, the whole forest was kinda skimpy.
I’m not saying that a good, well-phrased OP questioning and polling the posting habits of other Dopers isn’t allowed (because it is, even if it might be only ephemerally interesting), but your thread, Crandolph, failed because the title was pretty much a twin to a lot of the other post party threads; and because your one question (“Is this about average for a Doper?”) looked like it was just thrown in there, and not as the main thrust of your post.
It’s really not that big of a deal. If you don’t want the attention usually blasted at folks in the Pit, and if you feel the thread deserves to live again, you’re probably better off just e-mailing the forum’s mods explaining your views. I’m not promising you’ll be successful, but you’ll avoid the public drama this thread has seemed to spawn.

Listen, Fokker: Your outside experiences may be noble as hell, but here you’re only judged on what you post. And if I knew you IRL, and you were being a whiny little sot or an idiot, I’d sure as hell tell you. If you chose to beat me up afterward, well, how exactly does that make you a better person?
Yeah, saying how strong you are and how you could beat people up is soooo much better.
If that’s all you took away from this thread, you need to work on your reading comprehension. That isn’t all that was mustered. However, since it did come up with an alarming degree of frequency, you might want to do a little self-reflection.
I’m not saying your complaints/inqueries, the ones buried deep within your own passive-aggressive insulting language, don’t have some validity…just quit being such a overly-sensitive whiny dolt when people react with some degree of negativity toward you when you whine.
Honestly. I don’t think 90% of the time I spend here is the best use of my time, Charlie. I’d wager you could claim a similar pecentage, as could a lot of people here.

Can someone confirm that I am catching all of the nuances here? The OP opens a post party thread in MPSIMS, and it is locked. Although the OP is, generally, far to good to post much in the Pit, he figures that he will open a thread in which he seems to be daring people to flame him and when folks (very mildly) oblige he basically threatens to beat them up IRL? But we’re the assholes? Do I have all of this right?
Does anyone find it a bit unusual that someone accuses people of being “keyboard bullies”, then procedes to inform us of how tough he is and how he’d kick our asses if we called him names in person?

Last week, I (full disclosure to follow) kind of stupidly did a similar thing. Kind of a 500th post party, offering beer all around. 9 Posts later it was closed and deservedly so. I kinda remembered about post padding and such, but I was so frigging euphoric that all caution just got tossed into the wind and there I was.
Had I know I could have ranted and pissed everyone off here in The Pit, I would have done so. Instead, I silently “oopsed” myself :wally and continued on my merry way.
Of course, I’m not a whiny little bitch, so maybe that was my error…
Ah, yes, that was the one. Thank you. And I completely agree that Crandolph’s thread should’ve been closed. I’m just also tired of silly little “Countdown to thread closing” posts.

But on a more sober topic, I would like to offer an apology to Crandolph for my initial post in this thread. It was quite unnecesarily a bit abusive and I regret that. Such behavior and language was uncalled for.
UncleBeer just shot me an email with much the same message to graciously apologize, which was duly accepted. We’re all squared away now, he and I, and I wanted to acknowledge this very big behavior on his part in the same public forum he offered it.
That’s the sole reason for me returning to the thread; to post this. I’m out again.
