I was getting some screen shots from a video (by pressing Alt-PrintScreen), where are these pics stored at? Also, how can you change where these pictures are stored?
Sorry Windows 2000 Professional is what I’m using.
All of the PrintScreen functions use the Windows Clipboard, just like cut, copy, and paste. AFAIK this resides in system memory and this cannot be changed.
To save the images you’re capturing, you need a graphics program (e.g. Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop) to paste them into. Some graphics programs also have a screen capture facility that lets you take multiple screenshots without switching between applications.
If it’s video you’re trying to capture, I think this post may be relevant.
You can also simply open the Windows “Paint” app and paste into there and save.
If you do this frequently, it can be a pain in the butt to always open an image editing tool, paste, and then save.
I looked into this recently to provide an easy means of allowing our software testers to take a screenshot and store it in our bug database.
There are a few dozen tools out there that do this, but most of them cost between twenty and forty dollars. We wanted something free that we could place on our network for everybody.
Here’s the one I found: Gadwin PrintScreen
It’s pretty good. I have it set up so that when I hit the PrintScreen key, a jpeg of the screen is saved automatically. You have to fiddle with some settings to get it just the way you like it, but it works fine for me.
