Alter egos for the bad guys?

Another thread on this forum mentions the double identify of comic book heroes, wondering if the same device was used in other forms of literature.

I’m wondering why it’s only the good guys that have double identities. Why don’t the bad guys in Superman and Batman and The Amazing Spider-Man have normal identities with which to do their bad stuff? Probably need a comic book writer/publisher to explain this one. . .

Urrr? Plenty of the bad guys had secret identities. The Kingpin was a respected businessman. Green Goblin. Lex Luthor from Lois and Clark, if you consider that a valid example.

The main reason you didn’t see much done with secret ID’s is that they only had so many pages in the comic, and the villains only showed up when they were feeling villainous.
