I got a new Samsung cooktop a year or so ago. The grates have little rubber feet on the bottom so they don’t rattle on the cooktop. A few days ago when my housecleaner was cleaning the grates in the sink, apparently one of these feet came loose and has disappeared (probably down the drain). I talked to Samsung, and they don’t sell the feet separately; the only option they offer is to buy a whole new grate for about $300, which is of course a ridiculous price to pay just to get a new rubber foot.
Any thoughts on other options? The foot is pretty thin, about 1/8 inch thick but has a dimple in the middle that fits over a bump in the cooktop. I’m thinking of some kind of heat-resistant putty-like material that I could mold into a new foot, and then it would harden into a rubbery consistency. Maybe a high-temperature epoxy, although I think it will be hard to get the shape exactly right with epoxy. I have a 3D printer, but I’m sure the resin that it uses wouldn’t stand up to the heat. Or perhaps just some sheet material that I could glue on?
Hm, that sounds promising, but I’m not sure 365 F is heat-resistant enough. A pan on the cooktop can reach 500 F or so, so I assume the grate itself can get approximately that hot.
Sounds like you’re going to want some sort of silicone. There are heat-resistant two-part silicone formulations designed for casting white metal into; you’d have to make a mould and pour the silicone though - it’s not like a putty
Just as a brainstorming idea: Maybe put the padding on the indent in the stovetop, rather than on the grate feet. Squirt a tiny blob of color coordinated silicone, grease the feet so they don’t stick to the silicon, and put the grate onto the blob to mold it to the right shape.
The roll I have of Bond It self-amalgamating silicone tape says “temperature-resistant up to 500°F”. Easy enough to cut off a small rectangle or L and stretch it over and around the foot.
The Versimold seems like exactly the type of thing I was envisioning. Strangely, it says it’s “Sold out” on the manufacturer’s web site, but Amazon has it. I ordered one and it is arriving tomorrow.
Now I was thinking of how to shape it into exactly the shape I want, and I realized I could design and 3D-print a mold for it. There should be plenty of Versimold for several iterations to fine tune the shape. Suddenly this project is sounding more fun.
I have one of these types of stovetop grates with the little rubber/silicon feet as well, so was curious about this thread. A quick search on Amazon (“stove grate rubber feet samsung”) returns a bunch of options in the <$10 range. If you want to make this a project, that’s all well and good, but there are inexpensive products out there that may work.
Not a perfect fit. A little shorter than the original but haven’t noticed that was a problem. They are supposed to be glued in with high temp RTV but I never got around to it and the one replaced is sticking in by friction a year later.
I have that same problem and did find the little feet on amazon, but haven’t purchased them. I’ve used high temp silicone glue. Got it from the auto parts store and so far its working, but its only been a couple of months.
I’ve looked on Amazon and elsewhere and cannot find any that fit my model. I have a NA30N6555TG . The feet in 74westy’s photo don’t look like mine and the amazon page doesn’t list mine as a supported model. Finding pre-made feet was my first choice, but I’ve given up and moved to plan B. I’d be more than delighted if anyone can find feet that fit my model.
