With respect, I don’t agree. I think reactions to men kissing, or women kissing, or men and women kissing, or what-have-you are involuntary.

Probably, yes. I would still term the reaction homophobic, though. However, I agree with Indistinguishable that one can be homophobic without necessarily being bigoted.

A Peter Pan is, in psychology, someone who doesn’t want to grown up… who behaves like a kid in many respects even though legally and physically grown up. They tend to marry Wendys, who are people who feel the need to mommy their spouse. This doesn’t mean that the Peter Pan is “looking to marry Mommy”: they’re just not wanting to take responsibility, which is a different animal. After all, the two I talked about were both Peters… their eldest daughter was the one who made sure her sisters didn’t crack each other’s heads open in rough play (poor kid).
And yes, apparently they’re official terms.

Until you supplied this explanation, I thought you had posted an (inadvertently, perhaps) offensive response and I also thought Fear Itself was perhaps wondering if you were referring to a legend from the bad old days of homosexuality being a mental disturbance.
Way back in the dark ages, men who were gay were thought to be that way because they were caught in a stage of arrested development and, therefore, never grew up and developed a natural attraction to the opposite sex.
And no, RyJae, I don’t think you’re homophobic. Your inquiry here seems to be a genuine quest for enlightenment, rather than the blanket and automatic response akin to some of the more blinkered self-analyses that posters have attributed to closet homophobes upthread.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I do admire people like you who not only discern such nuances, but apply them philosophically. Lots of people just dump the whole lot — homophobes and bigots — into the same barrel.

What everyone else said, just as long as you’re not one of those lame hetero guys who claims to have ‘no problem’ with gay guys just as long as they ‘don’t hit on me.’
And for the record, there’s maybe 10 seconds of hot guy-on-guy action in Brokeback. If that’s not your thing, it’s worth closing your eyes to enjoy the rest of the movie.
[/QUOTE]
Seconded. The action described is such a tiny portion of the movie that it would be easy just to fast-forward both scenes.
“Both” as in there are only two. Really.

If you specifically avoid entertainment that deals with gay issues, and no other reason, then perhaps a little introspection is in order.

It’s just I haven’t found anything that grabs my interest. It’s not like I’m scrolling through the guide, see LOGO, and go “Oh, noes, that’s teh gay channel…keep surfing!”
I also don’t watch Nickelodeon, Lifetime, or ESPN. I guess that means I hate kids, women and sports, too.

I must be a homophobe too then, I haven’t seen anything interesting on LOGO in about a year.
