No matter her motives or excuses, the twit is being a selfish, lazy fool. Fire her ass, now.
Everybody has problems, but that doesn’t mean work just magically goes away. It’s a matter of fairness. Why should everyone else be expected to carry her load? It’s raining, her hair hurts, her teeth itch…so what does that have to do getting work done? All those other folks who somehow manage to show up despite their problems, shouldn’t have to cover for her navel-gazing self indulgence.
So she demands slack. Has she ever mentioned maybe owing her co-workers part of her paycheck in return? Bet not.
Fire her.
She’s free loading on folks who are actually pulling the weight. They can’t correct the situation but be sure they’re waiting for you to do it. Honor your honest workers.
I’ve hired my share of schmucks myself. In my line of work, lateness usually isn’t the biggest problem. Finishing something up is.
One particular guy was fairly talented in his trade, but damn if he wasn’t both lazy AND arrogant about finishing his part of the job so someone else to start on their’s. Hint: The drywall has to be FINSHED before I can texture or put up trim or whatever.
The first couple of times I thought maybe I didn’t make myself clear, or maybe he was preoccupied (it happens) or something. But, by the third project when he started acting like I OWED him the work, I hired on an unskilled labourer with a good reference and taught him what I needed. Then, he and I finished the jerks job. Then, I told jerk not to show up anymore.
After several other contractors fired him, he got an office job with the state. He thought he was so favoured by the gods… My cousin works in the same building and he told me jerk got his last warning for lateness and not finishing his work and leaving early and stuff. Next offense, he’s gone. Not another warning, just gone.
