Am I being stupid for worrying about this?

Although my husband did not know what kind of fish I wanted to get, he wanted to get the complete tank…lid, filter, etc.

The salesperson did say this tank was complete and all we needed to do was add water and fish (now I realize the order :). However, after looking for fish for a week or two, I realized the only fish you can put in that tank is betta fish. Even if you put goldfish in it, you would eventually have to get a bigger tank sooner. They would have been wise to mention that or perhaps the manufacturer should put that on the box.

Although if you check on the box (although representation is not always perfect), their picture is totally off (search eclipse 6 if you like) with number, and size, of fish.

Unfortunately, the fish store didn’t explain that the picture on the box was totally off and that the contents wouldn’t hold even half of the fish in the picture.

However, the guilt is almost gone in that I realize we are much happier with the larger tank and fish are going to be brought home on Saturday!

And, yes, I believe that there would be a lot of people who wouldn’t do the research that I did and lost a lot of fish in that tank.

Here it is. Can a fish person weigh in on the types of fish?

gigi, those are all fancy goldfish. Far too cramped for them.

If you could have afforded it, I would have kept the 6 gallon as a quarantine tank for sick fish. While I didn’t keep it constantly running, I always had a 10 gallon tank and all the trappings that I could use for quarantine.

What was that story about the goldfish that was in a tank with scenery that made it seem a lot bigger than it was and the goldfish grew into a brick shape to fill the tank completely?

I can’t speak for fish tanks, but I wouldn’t consider a (previously opened) newly purchased item “used” unless it was obviously broken or otherwise defective when removed from the box. So as long as the tank and its parts still worked – even if you weren’t able to rewrap it perfectly – I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Enjoy your new tank!
