Am I dreaming or is Vista working better?

When I first got my computer, it had Vista and I HATED it. I changed to Ubuntu for about six months, which just ended up being more of a hassle than I was ready for (if I had made the change in college when I had more time to teach myself new tricks, I might have liked it more). After failing to install XP with the disks from my old computer, I decided to reinstall Vista only temporarily until I figured out how to XP to work.

The funny thing is. I LOVE Vista now. It’s working like a charm. It’s not slowing down (and I usually run numerous programs at once), and I’ve only got one minor problem for now (in another thread ).

I’m just curious, did Service Pack 1 really improve Vista? That’s the only thing I can think of that changed while I was using Ubuntu. I also bought an external hard drive, so now I don’t keep as much stuff on my internal hard drive.

Just curious…

I’ve had this Vista computer for about a year now, and it’s working pretty much the same as it was when I got it. However, it does seem easier to use, and now that I sit here and think about it, I believe it’s because I’ve gotten used to its little quirks and foibles.

So my frustration level overall is lower than a year ago, but it’s not due to Vista working better, it’s due to me getting used to Vista and changing my expectations and my behaviors.

ETA: I’ve got 1.5 Gig of RAM, and on my To-Do List this fall is to add more RAM, because it’s still sluggish and frustrating. So, there, you see, it’s not that Vista is working better, it’s that I’m learning to accommodate its needs, by adding more RAM.

Without a doubt it has improved the copy function. 95% of the time you can copy things in less than 15 minutes, rather than get a message saying it’ll take 18 hours. (I don’t know if it literally would have take 18 hours because I never let it go past two. I suspect it would have, though.)

That’s the only noticable improvement on my end since installing the service pack. The last week or two my computer has been very sluggish and I’m wondering if it has to do with any of the post-service pack updates. Virus and adware scans come back clean, the ram tests as working fine and vista promises it will continue to research this “unknown problem.” :dubious:

Yes. File operations - both local and network - especially.
