I haven’t seen Boondocks in a while but the Dr. King episode, where it turns out MLK has been in suspended animation this whole time, is revived, and gets to see how he’s been turned into an icon and how the whole civil rights thing turned out, is both hilarious and to-the-point dead-on commentary.
I believe Jimmy Chit is right about the discomfort being your own, but I would not apply this theory to the latest season. I find season four to be extremely racist. Just, not funny, at all. I was actually embarrassed after I viewed the first episode with some friends who have never heard of Boondocks. Too many awkward moments to count. I found myself apologizing to them and trying to justify my interest in the show.
What happens in season 4 that seemed racist?
I haven’t seen Season Four, but it should be noted that Aaron Macgruder isn’t involved with it. He parted ways with the show (apparently acrimoniously). So it’s his characters but no longer his vision.
You think The Colbert Report is subtle?
Ted Haggard?
Aw come on, at the very least Walter is damn good fun.
Yeah, I think this was pretty much the tipping point for me - where I really started to “get it”. Where the show really started to grow on me. That, and “The Itis”. I’m still watching it, and I defrinitely don’t think it’s racist any more.
