I don’t tend to pay much attention to names here. It’s hard to make personal connections in a place like this, where I can’t connect a person’s name to a face, a voice, or (in many cases) a gender.
That said, I recognize all the names in this thread, with the possible exception of threnodyangelfire (which makes sense, since you’ve only made 158 posts so it’s unlikely that I’ve read many of them).
I can’t say a single specific thing about any of you though. You’re all Dopers however, so I’m assuming you’re decent folks.
Heh. I used to know a bloke who did this. I was living and working in a country pub, and my sister came up from Sydney to visit us. She was only about nineteen, and pretty shy. A drinker in the pub, one of the regulars, was a bloke named Dale, and he was one of those dumpy, cheeky, outgoing guys who can get away with things the rest of us can’t, simply because of his face. He’d heard my sister’s name from our converstaions, and when she finally walked through the door as a complete stranger (to him), he ran up to her, weeping with joy: “LIZ!!!”, throwing his arms around her, and gushing. One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
I recognise almost every name in this thread. I don’t have any strong memories of most of them, but recognize them.
But it is probably a good thing that I don’t have strong memories of you. The people who I remember the strongest are the ones that I think are penises of the major order. There are a handful or so of those on the board.
I guess being included in this thread of general recognitions, is the first and only time I’ll know what the people in favorites people threads feel. I’ll have to clear the tear from my eye, because I’m included in the broad catagory as “most poster’s in this thread”.
I’ve thought about doing a thread like this. My thing is that I might want to change my name here to something more clever, and that I don’t use elsewhere as well. I’d want to know if anybody would miss seeing my current name. Of course, that would probably be a little presumptuous since I have so few posts compared to these others.
You are the first person in this thread I do not recognize.
You have started 43 threads and I have never posted to any. Who are you and what kind of stealth technology have you developed anyway. What do you have a cloaking device?
I recognize every poster’s name in this thread, I’ve lurked so long and so often. Very few posters are on my radar, though. I just feel a general sense of goodwill toward 99% of the dope…the other 1% did something really annoying at some point.
Yep. The show whose little marketing idea caused so much trouble in Boston a couple of weeks ago. That’s mostly where I recognize your name from too Frylock. I recognize everyone’s name except rucciface, but only remember things about some of you.
In the spirit of being cooperative with what I take to be a serious question in the OP, I’ll say first that the name evokes a neutral to mildly positive response. I believe we have had replies to the same threads from time to time, but I’m having trouble remembering topics, much less specific posts.
To provide a little more feedback, now that I’ve given an off-the-cuff and blind reply, and limiting my search to the last 50 posts you’ve made, I’ll say that this one is the most recent one that caught my attention. No special feelings either way.
I thought this thread was intriguing enough to read all the way through, but beyond my own ability to add anything useful.
By looking back through 30 pages of posts you’ve made, I found no evidence that you’ve ever responded to any threads I’ve started. Nor could I locate a thread where we both replied to the OP. So my response to your presence has been an “in passing” one with no strong reactions in either direction.
The reason I’ve gone these extra steps is that if I were to post the question you asked in the OP, I would appreciate similar evidence for the feelings other might have.
Like I said, the moment occasioning my OP has passed, but in any case, I appreciated the work you put into your post. Plus, it brought back fond topological memories.
