Am I really this pathetic?

Put up hummingbird feeders. Don’t just put up one, put up 2 or 3 5 to 20 feet apart. Those little suckers are very greedy and territorial. They will try to protect ALL the feeders as theirs and constant flybys will ensue.

Spend one weekend day a month being a tourist in your own town. Visit a museum, an art gallery, have lunch in a cafe, take in a show, walk through a park or visit some gardens. It’s fun and it’s easy!

I don’t see any reason to change the things you enjoy doing because they aren’t “grown up” enough. If i don’t enjoy computer games and anime when i’m 80 then something went very wrong with my life.

Very good idea. I saw my first hummingbird this year and it was very cool.

LOL, I’m not sure that’s possible in this town. But, we will be very close to Sturbridge Villlage, which I am very excited about. Also, the rest of central MA has interesting stuff to see. I am determined to get my boyfriend to Higgins Armory, even if it kills me. He’s a NERD!!! Why is it so hard to get him there?!?!?!

Since kids are right out I’m going to second one of the suggestions that Hello Again made upthread – geocaching. It is a true nerd hobby that you get to do outside. Computers still play a large part – looking up caches, printing maps, finding clues, etc – but eventually you have to get off your butt, go outside and find the cache. Go to Geocaching.com to get started. Great way to get to know all the greenspaces in your area as well.

By the time you are 80, something else will be more popular than computer games and anime: I hope you’ll be enjoying that. (Said by an anime otaku in his mid 60s, who remembers that there really was no such thing as anime when he was young – at least, not outside Japan).

We do enjoy them. But, we both admit that we’d like to expand our horizons a bit. Thanks to the unexpected offer on the condo and the last minute house hunt, we haven’t played in almost a month. The nerdy detox wasn’t as painful as we expected it to be. We’ve come a long way from the days when we’d make sure we were home for our Supergroup meetings and Taskforce Tuesday.

Depending on the amount of light pollution in your area, astronomy can be fun. You can get started just by using a pair of binoculars and it is pretty cheap.

This is a link to a handbook with 110 different objects that can be viewed with binoculars.

We do actually have a telescope. We never used it because, while Chicopee isn’t a major city, it is kind of bright at night. I doubt this will be an issue and we are both excited at the prospect of finally using the damn thing.

Have an interest in history? Reenactment groups can be a whole lot of fun, whilst retaining the joy of nerdom. I like the SCA, personally, but where you’re located, there are a number of great, more serious reenactment groups. I know some folks that do reenactment for Higgins, and they are great people.

Just a thought!

That’s an interesting though. I thought you were going to say Civil War or something like that, so I was going to say no.

Higgins type reenactment would be cool.

I talked to my PT today. She confirmed that archery would NOT be in my best interest at this point. Figures. But, she did also say I’ve made a lot of progress. Maybe soon I’ll be able to do it.

Earlier this year my wife and I took a an intro to ballroom dance class at a local community college. It was way cheaper than doing it through a studio and had at least as good a degree of instruction. We had a blast.

If that doesn’t sound like it might be your thing, do yourself a favor and check out the other continuing ed and one-time classes at your local CC. Ours has everything from dance to art to cooking and firearms instruction. Something will likely pop up that will get you both interested.
