Am I screwed for Life?

I was traveling over the 4th of July weekend from Hawaii back to my home in Chicago. I was at the airport in Kona and was pulled out of line for a “random” search (I knew there was nothing random about it as I had to change the flight on the ticket that I was flying on a couple of times - you can do that with inter-island flights).

Anyway…I had a small Leatherman tool on my key chain that has, among other things, a pocket knife. It was stupid for me to have left it on my house keys (usually I take it off when I’m flying) but I just forgot. Naturally it was confiscated. However my name, drivers license number and other info was put on a list, along with the item that was taken.

My question is: Where does that list go, and am I now destined for “random” searches every time I fly just because I forgot that damn key chain?

Probably not.

There are way too many people who pull bone-headed stunts, or just simply forget (as you did), dor them to track your movements all over the place. Now, if you did it twice, or are involoved in some other misbehaviors involving airline travel, then they could search this information out and say “Aha! He’s done it before!”, which might cause you some legal discomfort.

Don’t sweat it, unless you’re planning on making a habit out of forgetting your tools on your keyring.

I doubt it too. Like Tranquilis says, the amount of people who have had stuff like that confiscated must be enormous.

By the way, it might help your queries in the future to make subject lines more descriptive of what you are actually asking about.

A few months ago I attempted to board a plane with a packet of unopened darts in my backpack (not intentionally, I knew the darts were in there, but it just didn’t ‘click’ that these would obviously be disallowed). While I was being questioned, another lady came through with a knife on her key ring as well.

It happens. No need to worry yourself about it.
