Every. Last. One. of my schlepping tee shirts is an American Apparel 50/50. I’m a tall, skinny dude, and the length/sleeve on the mediums is pretty close to perfect. They last forever, too - I have a couple that are going on four years of weekly wear, and while they’re (slightly) faded, their shape is just fine.
Heavy 100% cotton shirts make me look like a hesher.
You should give [link removed]. They are thick and heavyweight but will not shrink, twist or fade. You can get blank or with a vintage style graphic. Sorry to sound like an advert but it is frustrating to see folks looking for a heavy tee and can only find those 7 oz ones. There are long or short sleeve versions and last forever.
mdurkee, welcome to the Straight Dope. We hope you’ll look around a while and stay. We frown on people who search on topics in order to sell their products, which is what you appear to have done. However, since you’ve posted to at least one another thread, I’m hoping you’ll become a member of our community. But for now I’ll have to delete your link; it’s again’ the rules.
Argent Towers, you should try women’s shirts. They tend to be made of lighter weight, softer fabrics, and a little spandex is almost always blended in. What you’re describing sounds exactly like “tissue tees” which like salinqmind I get from Target.
I want t-shirts to be summer-weight, because that’s when I wear just a t-shirt on the top half of my body. If I wear one of these “ultra-super-heavyweight cotton” tees during the summer, I turn into a puddle of sweat, and so does the tee.
And during the rest of the year, I’m going to be wearing something over the tee anyway, so it doesn’t have to be heavy all by itself.
There’s really only a thin temperature band where it’s comfortable to wear jeans and a heavy tee with nothing over it, maybe a week or two in spring, and another week or two in the fall. But I can wear shorts and a light tee from mid-May to early September. I want t-shirts that are wearable during that part of the year. And the super-duper-heavy tees are lousy for that.
I totally disagree in the strongest terms possible. Thin Ts are horrible. I want heavy weight, long-lasting, wear like iron Ts that they just don’t make anymore. I want Ts like I got at concerts back in the 80s. The graphics are all washed away, but the shirts are still going strong.
Yeah, that was not my intention but I see your point. I have been reading in this forum for some time now and just couldn’t stand to see this again. Oh well, maybe one day the folks looking for heavyweight tees will find us. I *do *enjoy this forum though.
