Amazing Accomplishments - what's yours?

My future father in law, who is 62, supported by me and by his daughter, just ran this past weekend from Birmingham to London along the Grand Union Canal. It’s 145 miles. He started running at 6am Saturday morning at Gas Light Basin in Birmingham and ended in London’s Little Venice at 11:08pm Sunday. 80 people started the race; 29 finished. 80-something total have ever finished this race. He didn’t sleep during the 41 hours 8 minutes of the race.

Following along with him, setting up refreshments at checkpoints, treating his blisters and changing his socks for him, my girl and I started at 4am Saturday, and didn’t get to bed until 12pm Sunday; I think we each got about 2 hours of sleep total during that time, mostly naps here and there along the route.

This was the most remarkable thing I’ve ever witnessed, let alone taken part in. It was super cool. And whilst I will never ever do this again (thankfully), it’s got me thinkining - what’s the coolest thing you’ve ever taken part in?

Holy cow!, that´s amazing.
On the other hand I´m very sorry for you if GomiLass has her fathers´ stamina… :stuck_out_tongue:

On a similar note, although not nearly as outstanding, I went from having never in my life ran more than 1/3 of a mile (and that 10 years earlier) to taking part on a 10Km race in 4 weeks worth of training. Although the first morning I went running, after winding up to near death on the first 300 meters, I wasn´t very confindent I could do it!

More recently, I literally gave up everything I had, packed up a backpack and moved half way across the world to live with my fiancee. Trust me on this, it was´t easy at all from any angle you´d see it. For me it was, I think, my greatest acomplishment.

Congrats on the run - it just starts with the first step

And I’ve done the moving without anything thing before - when I moved to the UK I had 2 duffel bags and a rucksack. Now I’ve a house full of crap and wonder where I went wrong :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, the father in law is a nutter. The GomiLass runs marathons occasionally, but nothing like her father thankfully. He’s also run the Trans 555 , the Trans 333 , and the Marathon De Sable. Definitely not right in the head. The scary part was he was walking around yesterday, about as sore as I would be after running 10km, with only 2 blisters although 1 blister was pretty nasty.
